All hail the Lagiacrus.

The title aims to bring the full Monster Hunter experience to handheld devices, including a giant open world and epic monster hunts. But it seems like the developers aren’t just going to settle for making the game a copy of what’s available on consoles, as they’ve detailed some new crafting mechanics that will be exclusive to Outlanders.

Monster Hunter Outlanders May Be Getting Survival Crafting Mechanics And Base Building

In a new video shared on the Monster Hunter Outlanders YouTube channel, the development team talk through a few of the game’s core mechanics.

While many of the mechanics seen in the video are part and parcel with the series as it is now, we get a brief tease of something not seen in Monster Hunter before.

Around halfway through the video, a hunter can be seen chopping down a tree, gathering the resources it drops, with the developers saying, “We are also developing new crafting elements and other features that allow players to adventure however they like within the open-world areas.”

The scene then cuts to the hunter putting up a fence around a house that looks suspiciously player-designed. Peaking inside the house, there is a small fireplace, a stool, and a bed, with a handful of decorations outside it. Putting two and two together, it looks like the resources the hunter gathered by chopping down the tree can be crafted into elements to build and customize a home base.

Previous Monster Hunter titles did, of course, have a resource gathering element, with players able to collect herbs and ore, among other things, to craft consumables, armor, and weapons, but never did they chop down trees or place fences around a house.
