Metro Exodus is the third and largest game in the Metro series, trading in the more linear and narrative-focused formula of the earlier games and replacing it with more of an open-world format. Throughout the game, players will travel to various regions throughout Russia and face off against unique threats and challenges in each one.

Metro: Every Game In The Series, Ranked
The Metro game series doesn’t have many weak links, but a few games stand out above the rest.
Continuing the story of Artyom, Metro Exodus follows the Rangers as they explore the surface beyond Moscow and try to maintain their new locomotive home. As a result, the game can be considerably longer than previous entries, particularly for those looking to complete all side quests and unlock every achievement. Here’s how long players can expect to spend in Metro Exodus.
How Long Does It Take To Complete Metro Exodus?
For players who just want to follow the main story, they can expect to take around 15-20 hours to complete it. However, as a semi-open world game, there is plenty of side content to explore, such as hidden quests and locations, special items and bosses, as well as new DLC content that expands on some of the other characters. In total, all of this content in a completionist playthrough could take upwards of 40 hours, making Metro Exodus by far the largest game in the Metro series. The length of the game will also depend heavily on each player’s playstyle, skill level, and the difficulty they are playing on.
Despite being one of the more recent entries in the Metro series, Metro Exodus can still make for a good entry-point into the series for newcomers. With high-fidelity graphics and a combination of action, horror, and psychological-survival mechanics, it is arguably the most well-rounded game in the series too.
Players can expect to encounter enemies ranging from bandits and outlaws to colossal winged predators and giant mutated fish. Whether returning as a fan of the series or playing a Metro game for the first time, Metro Exodus is sure to provide plenty of content and more than its fair share of entertainment and immersion.
