NA CS is so back. At the Americas RMRs for the PW Shanghai Major 2024, North America’s finest teams, Liquid and Complexity, have secured their spot at the upcoming CS2 tournament. We’re hurtling towards the end of the RMRs right now, so let’s take a look at how everything went on the server today.
Liquid and Complexity make NA proud
Sitting pretty in the 2:1 bracket, the CS2 odds were in favor of Liquid and Complexity making the PW Shanghai Major 2024. Complexity achieved the feat earlier in the day, beating M80 in a pretty comfortable 2:0 series. Both EliGE and floppy came up huge for Complexity, and with no individual underperforming, they had the right formula for success.
Liquid’s game was a little closer, after being taken to a third map by FURIA. These two teams were among the dead certs to qualify, so to see them fight in the 2:1 bracket was a shame. Here, it was Liquid that came out on top, erasing the bad memories of their failure to qualify for the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 earlier this year. They made it despite YEKINDAR’s form, which remains a colossal concern for the team.
It’s looking precarious for FURIA and M80
We’re almost at the point of last-chance saloon for FURIA and M80, two teams who desperately will have wanted to qualify for the PW Shanghai Major 2024 without too much fuss. Even if both teams win their 2:2 bracket match, there’s a very real chance they have to then fight it out in the 7th place tiebreaker for the final Major spot. It’s a bit of a disaster, really.
For FURIA, they’re supposed to be the best team in Brazil. But here, MIBR and paiN Gaming have already secured their Major slot, and they only have their opening loss to Legacy to blame for the situation they find themselves in. Their loss to Liquid is obviously no shame, and they’ll feel hard done by that this is who they were matched up against in the 2:1 bracket.
Meanwhile, M80 are in danger of missing two Majors in a row while being favored to reach the event. They’ve shown a good level at LAN events throughout 2024, so missing out here would spell bad news for the organization. Even financially, M80 will want to see some returns on their CS investment, and reaching the Major is a huge part of that. Like FURIA, M80 will feel aggrieved to have matched with Complexity in the 2:1 bracket – a game they wouldn’t be favorites to win. Now, they need to beat BESTIA to give themselves a shot of securing one of the last two Americas RMR spots at the PW Shanghai Major 2024.
