Legends Can Live On in TES 6

The long wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 has felt grueling for many lovers of Bethesda’s fantasy RPG franchise, and 2025 doesn’t exactly start the year on a positive note for some fans. The Elder Scrolls: Legends, the franchise’s digital card spin-off, is officially shutting down in January. Despite the free-to-play card game getting the axe, The Elder Scrolls 6 could actually be a new home for Legends.

Shutting down Elder Scrolls: Legends in January may put a damper on the wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 for some fans, but that doesn’t mean all hope is lost for the card game. Although it was a niche title that didn’t have nearly as large of an audience reach as the franchise it was based on, Legends could be far better suited as a mini-game. It is expected that The Elder Scrolls 6 will bring an even more robust fantasy experience to life, and adding a Legends-inspired card game into the mix could make its shut-down well worth it.

The Elder Scrolls 6 can make its dungeons much more replayable by taking a new approach to designing them compared to previous games.

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 – Poker

Mini-games are strong ways for games to add extra content that not only offers a break from a game’s core objectives, but also further immerses players at the same time. These card games are inconsequential to the overall plot of the story, but it can be a great way to feel like one’s truly living the life of a character. Much of the news about The Elder Scrolls 6 has merely been rumors and speculation, but with the abrupt shut-down of Legends, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the card game return in this specific way.

These various mini-games can even build cult-followings within the community. Playing Gwent in The Witcher 3 is a huge pastime for many players, with some even booting up the game just to play some runs of the card game. When it comes to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Queen’s Blood proved to be a fun strategy-based card game that can also inform some of the story’s side content. While poker in Red Dead Redemption 2 may not be as world-defining as the others, it still adds a unique layer that immerses players even more into the Old West.

The official date for
The Elder Scrolls: Legends
‘ shut-down is January 30, 2025.

Elder Scrolls: Legends Can Find a New Home

Although nothing has been confirmed, a card-based mini-game that is either a repurposed version of Legends or, at the very least, inspired by it could be one of the many ways The Elder Scrolls 6 improves upon its predecessors. Trying to predict what to expect in The Elder Scrolls 6 has failed to produce solid answers, but some theories are bound to be proven true, whether it be card mini-games or the story’s setting.

A Notoriously Long Waiting Period Will Hopefully See an End Soon

It has now been a whopping six years since Bethesda officially announced The Elder Scrolls 6. In that stretch of time, all that has been revealed is the incredibly short announcement trailer. Although this has been frustrating for many, it hopefully means that the wait for more news is close to being over.

Gwent became so popular that developer CD Projekt Red created an official free-to-play spin-off;
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game
.

As expectations for The Elder Scrolls 6 continue to grow, Bethesda will hopefully be able to deliver an update sooner, rather than later. Once more insight is given, it will be thrilling to finally see what the game has in store, even if Legends doesn’t get to be part of it.
