Every Feature Confirmed for Fantasian Neo Dimension So Far

Fantasian: Neo Dimension is an upcoming re-release of a critically-acclaimed RPG from 2021 called Fantasian. It’s being developed by Mistwalker, the Japanese-American company best known for its work on cult classic JRPGs like Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, and The Last Story. The original Fantasian came out exclusively on iOS and macOS via the Apple Arcade subscription service, but this new version of the game is going to launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on December 5, 2024. Interestingly, Fantasian: Neo Dimension will be the first Mistwalker game to be released on a PlayStation console in the company’s 20-year history.

Unlike other JRPG re-releases like Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance and Persona 5 Royal, Fantasian: Neo Dimension is sticking relatively close to its source material. This definitive edition of Mistwalker’s latest JRPG only makes some minor changes to the base game. In other words, it doesn’t contain additional story content and major gameplay features that aren’t present in the original Fantasian. With that being said, the few new enhancements that Fantasian: Neo Dimension does include are worth mentioning.

Fantasian: Neo Dimension Makes a Handful of Noteworthy Changes to the Original Game

Fantasian: Neo Dimension Supports Up to 4K Resolutions on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC

One of the major selling points of Fantasian: Neo Dimension is its improved resolution support. Since the original Fantasian was designed with mobile devices in mind, it wasn’t capable of running at high resolutions, at least not on iPhones. Now that it’s coming to consoles, though, it will finally be able to take full advantage of current-gen hardware. On PS4/5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Fantasian: Neo Dimension will support 4K visuals on compatible displays. The game will also run at 60 FPS, but Square Enix hasn’t clarified whether the last-gen PS4 and the low-spec Xbox Series S will be able to support 4K and 60 FPS simultaneously.

English and Japanese Voiceovers Are Some of the Highlights of Fantasian: Neo Dimension

Unlike its predecessor, Fantasian: Neo Dimension will also have voiceovers. Every cutscene in the game will now feature full voice acting. The majority of the optional dialogue will receive the voiceover treatment as well, but there are still some scenes that will remain unvoiced. The game will be dubbed in both English and Japanese, and players will have the option to choose between both languages. The lack of voice acting was a major point of criticism in the original game; this probably happened due to budgetary or technical restraints. Now that Fantasian is receiving a proper voice over, its story will likely be more immersive.

Fantasian: Neo Dimension Features Music from the Final Fantasy Series

Fantasian: Neo Dimension is being published by Square Enix, and both Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and composer Nobuo Uematsu are involved in the game. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, that the upcoming re-release is going to feature some extra Final Fantasy-related content. In Fantasian: Neo Dimension, players will be able to customize the game’s soundtrack and choose from an assortment of Final Fantasy songs to listen to during combat. Square Enix has revealed that music from FF16, FF7 Remake, FF7 Rebirth, FF14: Endwalker, FF14: Dawntrail, and the FF Pixel Remasters will be present in the game.

Players Will Have the Option to Lower the Difficulty in Fantasian: Neo Dimension

Last but certainly not least, Fantasian: Neo Dimension will include an easy mode. The original Fantasian was a very old-school 90s-style JRPG, and like many games from that era, it was surprisingly difficult. Many of the boss fights in the game could wipe out a player’s entire party in a matter of moments if they weren’t prepared enough. Fortunately, those who weren’t a fan of Fantasian‘s challenging gameplay can now select a new, “Normal” difficulty option in its enhanced re-release. Players who prefer challenging combat, on the other hand, can enable Fantasian: Neo Dimension‘s “Hard” mode to retain the game’s difficulty.
