  • The game’s limited availability and positive review scores contribute to its newfound popularity and high prices online.

A surprisingly creepy PlayStation 2 game about Piglet, one of the core characters of Winnie the Pooh‘s Hundred Acre Wood, has skyrocketed in price on eBay. After being largely forgotten, it seems Piglet’s Big Game has a surprising level of creepiness for a PS2 kids game that has drawn in players after all these years.

Piglet’s Big Game is a movie tie-in game that came out back in 2003 for the PlayStation 2, GameCube, GBA, and PC, albeit with some large differences between the different platforms. As is often the case with plots surrounding Piglet, the diminutive creature has to try and battle his own anxiety as he tries to help his friends. In this game’s case, this includes delving into friends’ dreams in order to rid them of the problems they’re having.

Now, the creepy Pooh game has gone from largely being forgotten to having copies sell out on eBay. In October, copies of the game were rarely sold, and were often included as a toss-in on lot purchases of multiple games. The price typically never reached $20 USD, but as of this writing, the game’s price has shot up to selling for up to $300 USD, with numerous copies sold in the hundreds of dollars, and remaining copies asking for up to thousand.

Why is a Piglet PlayStation 2 Game So Valuable Suddenly?

Footage from Piglet’s Big Game started going viral earlier in November following social media users sharing brief glimpses of gameplay and the game’s soundtrack. While the entirety of the game apparently isn’t creepy, Piglet’s journey through Owl’s dream takes place in a spooky library that looks akin to the Spencer Mansion or another Resident Evil locale. The anxiety-inducing gameplay benefits from impressive sound design, but the biggest leap for its popularity is likely due to an unusual connection to Silent Hill.

Social media users have pointed out that one of the Piglet Big Game‘s tracks seems to sound very familiar to fans of the Silent Hill franchise. One track in particular, Foreboding 1, sounds as though it’s using a sample that Silent Hill series composer Akira Yamaoka also used while working on the series’ OSTs. This, combined with the game’s surprisingly positive review scores at launch has led a lot of fans of scary games to want and check out the game that’s being referred to as “Baby’s First Survival Horror.

While the hype is unlikely to last forever, at the moment, copies of the game on eBay remain expensive, whether players look at the PS2 or GameCube versions. As a game that’s largely been forgotten, copies of the title seem to be fairly limited. It remains to be seen if the price rises even further from here or if it begins to calm back down.
