Oppenheimer was Nolan’s first film with Universal after the acclaimed filmmaker parted ways with long-time partner Warner Bros. Tom Holland Confirms When Spider-Man 4 Starts Shooting

After weeks of rumors, Tom Holland has officially confirmed when Spider-Man 4 is set to start filming and when it will release.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Black Panther actress Lupita Nyong’o has joined the cast of Nolan’s next movie. She joins fellow cast members Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya. While Nolan worked with Damon and Hathaway before (Damon starred in Oppenheimer and Interstellar; Hathaway starred in the latter and played Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises), his new movie marks his first time directing Nyong’o, Holland, and Zendaya. Of course, Nyong’o, Holland, and Zendaya are well-known for their respective MCU roles as Nakia, Spider-Man, and MJ.

While official plot details for Nolan’s next movie have yet to be divulged, rumors have ranged from it being a helicopter action thriller to a vampire period piece film. However, THR notes that insiders claim no reported loglines or descriptions of Nolan’s next movie “come close to nailing Nolan’s real idea.” Production on Nolan’s next movie is scheduled to begin early next year. Nolan will direct from a script he wrote and serve as a producer alongside his work partner and wife Emma Thomas through their Syncopy banner.

Of course, Nyong’o is known for more than just her Black Panther work. Nyong’o won the Best Supporting Actress award at the Oscars for her performance in 12 Years a Slave, which was her first feature film. She’s since starred in several blockbusters, including the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Disney’s live-action Jungle Book remake, and A Quiet Place: Day One. While she may not have worked with Nolan before, her previous credits with Universal include Jordan Peele’s Us and the hit animated film The Wild Robot.

So, Nyong’o has proven herself an outstanding actress on multiple occasions. While her role in Nolan’s next movie is unknown, there’s no doubt she can accomplish whatever the character and Nolan require. After Oppenheimer became and box office and award-season success (winning the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director, to name a few of its victories), fans are excited to see what Nolan has planned next with this ensemble cast of talented performers.

Nolan’s next movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 17, 2026.
