Chapter One, The Curse Walkthrough

Chapter One, The Curse Walkthrough

The crime saga that started in The Case of the Golden Idol continues with a sequel, an equally grisly and visceral story entitled The Rise of the Golden Idol. Players use their point-and-click skills to play detective yet again in this new and complete storyline, which stands on its own, so they don’t have to worry about missing any information or references from the previous game.

The game is split into chapters, of which there are a total of four the player has to sleuth their way through. Chapter One includes the Turotial, a short scenario that’s presented in the timeline as a prologue.

Most of the same rules when it comes to gameplay and progression still apply as the first game, which means the main goal is to collect lists of words that fill in various blanks. These include lists of names, accounts of specific events, and other deductions based on the information provided.

Spoiler Alert! The following guide contains complete solutions and major spoilers for the prologue and Chapter One of The Rise of The Golden Idol.

7 Beginner Tips For The Case Of The Golden Idol

While The Case Of The Golden Idol may not be a particularly complex game, there are a few things to keep in mind while conducting an investigation.

Constriction

A Murderous Way Out

This short scenario is a way of teaching players how to point-and-click their way to the solutions. On the bottom of each screen, there’s a section that lists how many words there are and the “spots” or locations where the words can be found.

The “spots” are marked by flashing exclamation points or question marks and turn into a “down” arrow when the clue has been uncovered.

Names

There are four spaces to fit the names of two people, both of which appear in this scenario. One is Morg Brakka, whose name appears on his nurse uniform. The other is Oriel Toussant, a professor and asylum inmate. His name can be found on the list of inmates in the insert that shows Morg, a pack of cigarettes, and a key chain.

Events

It’s fairly simple to deduct what happened from the names and main picture alone, but further clues regarding names and locations are found on Oriel’s straightjacket. Once the text is complete, the next section of the chapter is available.

The completed task describes the event and reads as follows:

The professor, Oriel Toussaint, killed Morg Brakka with a strap from a straightjacket in the Red Wood asylum.

Chapter One – The Curse

chapter one rise of the golden idol

  • The machinations of the Nowak family and the appearance of The Red Curse

What follows are three scenarios, all related to people who were connected in some way with the Golden Idol and have either run afoul of the law or succumbed to its curse. Important characters are introduced including the Bagman family, Isaac Nowak, his relatives, the detectives on the case, and Police Commissioner Sebastion Walsh.

Academic Impact – The Death Of A Brilliant Mind

Other names appear in this section that are more important later, such as Brandon Bagman and the names of the foundations related to the Nowak family.

Names

The scene is a grisly one, and more than a little disturbing for Debra and Cyril Bagman, whose names can be found in both snippets of dialogue and Cyril’s identification. The poor fellow lying dead on the ground is Isaac Nowak, and he’s the brilliant mind that has met an untimely end.

Events

The description of the scene is fairly straightforward, especially if the names have already been determined. Debra Bagman and Cyril Bagman discovered the body of Isaac Nowak, which was there because he fell from the bridge.

Story 1

At this point, the option “Story 1” will appear in the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. This is a much longer text that is partly blocked out. The player won’t be able to complete Story 1 until they complete the first chapter, which means all of their word lists are filled in. Only a few names will be available at this point.

Under Construction – A Brutal Blue Collar Departure

Between the newscaster, the police interviewer, and the dialogue, most of the names are easily found. Some of them will also appear as part of the next scenario, Newsflash.

Names

Starting from the top of the list, which means beginning with the foreman and moving across the list from left to right, the names are…

  • Row 1: Joel Gregson, Ted Werter, Monty Totsky, Bill Jenkins
  • Row 2: Roy Samson, Ian Worth, Mirando Meadows, Luke Brown

Events

Considering how much is going on in this picture, the Events text is extremely short. It’s an explanation of what happened to the Foreman. Finding out the names first, and what worker drives which vehicle, makes this easy.

Monty Totsky used the demolisher on the sewage pipe. This resulted in the death of Joel Gregson. Following this, the body of Luke Brown was discovered unexpectedly.

Vehicles

It’s easy to tell which vehicle is which from its function, but the names of the drivers aren’t as obvious.

  • Excavator: Ted Werter
  • Demolisher: Monty Totsky
  • Cutter: Bill Jenkins

Story 1

More words will appear in the list. If the player can piece together a few, they can start doing so, but they won’t be able to complete the whole text until Chapter 1 is finished.

Newsflash – The Sudden Announcement Of A Sinister Cult

This is the first scenario that includes more than one screen. Players must visit the morgue and the Police Commissioner’s office, both upstairs, to fill out the word lists and find all the spots.

Names

There are five names to be found, and the first two have already been discovered in “Under Construction.” The rest are found in either the office or the dialogue options.

  • Roy Samson and Ian Worth are on the case, or so they thought.
  • Sebastian Walsh is the Police Commissioner who has called the press conference.
  • The grieving relatives are Elizabeth Nowak and Jack Nowak.

Conference

The Police Commissioner makes some interesting comments during the conference about two high-profile deaths.

During the conference, Sebastian Walsh claimed:

1. The case Beetle 4 was a tragic accident.

2. The case Cougar 9 has a strong drug connection.

Victim

When the player finds a crumpled photo in Walsh’s office, another category unlocks on the menu bar labeled “victim.” The information used to fill this out is found both in Walsh’s office and the morgue. The description cards and list in the morgue can tell the player which body is which.

  • This is a picture of Isaac Nowak from the case Beetle 4.
  • His body lies on Table B.
  • His death is linked to the Red Curse.

Events

What makes this dialogue easy, even though it’s the longest Event text so far, is that the names repeat several times.

  • Paragraph 1: Isaac Nowak, Red Curse
  • Paragraph 2: Elizabeth Nowak, offered, Sebastian Walsh, board position
  • Paragraph 3: Sebastian Walsh, Isaac Nowak, tragic accident

Story 1

The word lists for Story 1 should now be complete, and it’s fairly long with six paragraphs, but the player should have most or all of this information by now.

Insert the following words to complete the text.

  • Paragraph 1: Luke Brown, sewage pipe, Red Curse
  • Paragraph 2: Isaac Nowak, Bagman
  • Paragraph 3: Elizabeth Nowak, Isaac Nowak, drug user
  • Paragraph 4: Elizabeth Nowak, Brandon Bagman, Isaac Nowak, Red Curse
  • Paragraph 5: Sebastian Walsh
  • Paragraph 6: zero evidence, Red Curse, drug user

When Story 1 is finished, Story 2 will appear. This is completed using a combination of the information and words in Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.

Players can skip ahead to Chapter 2 at any time using an option on the main screen but they might not have all of the information to complete the Story puzzles.
