The Grigori are the Supreme Advisors of the True Cross Order of Knights, serving as its founders and having absolute authority in the Order. The True Cross Order was not founded solely by humans. In the past, Lucifer, the King of Light, was one of the first of the Ba’al to have his “ego” sprout and thus search for a vessel.

However, as Lucifer was one of the strongest of the Eight Demon Kings, he suffered the fastest from degradation, as mentioned in Chapter 86 by Mephisto Pheles. Due to the pain and suffering he had to endure, he took out his pain and suffering on humans and convinced the other Eight Demon Kings to join him in the attack. Unfortunately, this resulted in an era of destruction, fire, flooding, and disease.

To prevent humanity’s destruction, Mephisto and two of his siblings joined hands and taught humans how to fight demons. With this came the beginning of the True Cross Order, which has existed for 100 to 200 years. This order accomplished two things: the ability to fight off demons and preserve the equilibrium of the world.

As the Grigori are one of the founders of the True Cross Order, they also have an agency that protects them. It is called the Grigori Agency. The Director of this Agency is Jeremia Uzai, and the Grigori appears in light-colored garments. The primary task of the Grigori Agency is to maintain and manage the Grigori in addition to the Holy Ground of their crystallizations.

Grigori’s three founders are Azazel, the King of the Spirits, the Shemihaza, and Armumahel. As mentioned, some of the Eight Demon Kings joined hands with humans, giving them the knowledge to defeat demons. Azazel, the King of Spirits, was one of them because he sympathized with the Sol or Twin Stars.

It was found that Azazel also took part in the mass-cloning production for Lucifer, the King of Lights’ new vessel. However, in Chapter 87, it was found that Azazel’s body was enshrined in a sanctuary. As Azazel was one of humanity’s three founders and allies, he did not seek a new body incarnated and has thus chosen to return to nature naturally.

However, as Section 13 took samples from Azazel for the cloning process, his body crystallized much quicker. As Azazel remains crystallized, his highest advisor wears the official robes and plays the part of Azazel of the Grigori during emergencies. A Nephilim would typically do this position; however, as Azazel’s bloodline dried out hundreds of years prior, the advisor now serves as a substitute.

Shemihaza is one of the members of Sol and is called the Emperor of Creation. Long ago, the human world was barren and inhospitable to life because of the King of the Earth. To subdue his anger, Shemihaza sacrificed her flesh and crystallized herself into a large tree in Amahara. The base of operations for Shemihaza also resides in Amahara. Enshrining the Shemihaza tree is a holy land of a diverse ecosystem, which can also be called El. She also sealed the King of the Earth, Amaimon, with her crystallization into minerals.

However, Shemihaza only crystallized a part of Amaimon and left his “self” in exchange for becoming her servant. As time passed, her descendants took on her role as Shemihaza in the Grigori. However, to become the new successor, the descendant must subjugate Amaimon. The current Shemihaza in the Grigori is Shiemi’s mother, who also works at the Exorcist Shop near True Cross Academy. However, Shiemi would later become the new successor after defeating Amaimon.

The final Grigori member is Armumahel, the Emperor of Emptiness. Like Azazel and Shemihaza, Armumahel chose to revert to nature through crystallization. Like Azazel, Armumahel is a demon closely related to Yamantaka, Shima Renzo’s familiar. Armumahel’s role in the Grigori is to provide a substance that subdues demons.

As Armumahel’s body is crystallized, portions of the crystal are extracted and used to create Holy Silver and Holy Water. In Chapter 110, Lucifer informs Yukio that Armumahel’s power has the same qualities as the Black Flame, which is considered the flame of Gehenna. This Black Flame will nullify demons and hollow out human beings. Like Azazel, Armumahel also has a substitute that stands in during emergency meetings called Balthasar.

In preparation for defeating Satan in Chapter 130, the Grigori Agency and the current Shemihaza of the Grigori, who at the time was Shiemi’s mother before Shiemi succeeded her, participated in the battle.
