Black Ops 6 Season 1 revives a classic Call of Duty easter egg

When Nuketown arrived in Black Ops 6 prior to the launch of Season 1, it was met with widespread joy – but there was still one disappointing element that was missing. In every version of the iconic Call of Duty map, an easter egg would trigger if the heads of every mannequin were shot off in a certain amount of time, but in Black Ops 6’s version, there was nothing. Well, that’s all changed with the launch of Black Ops 6 Season 1 – the Nuketown easter egg is back.

From activating arcade minigames, to launching rockets, to putting bizarre filters on your screen, the Nuketown mannequin easter egg has taken on many guises over the years. In Black Ops 6, it takes inspiration from some past iterations while also adding its own new flavor. While Season 1 of the multiplayer game is already packed with a mind-blowing amount of new content, this is definitely a fun little secret to try and find with your friends – although a private lobby is definitely recommended.

By quickly shooting the heads off all the mannequins on the map in Black Ops 6, a message will appear on your screen that reads “Signal lost, stand by” with a logo resembling a mushroom cloud in the centre. In both tone and appearance, it feels very similar to the “Please stand by” screens in Fallout games. Then, a series of images of Nuketown will flash across the screen with a fuzzy, old-school TV set filter.

Once this quick montage has finished, you’ll be returned to the map, but you’ll have been transported into an ‘90s sitcom version of Nuketown. The fuzzy filter will remain, cheesy title music will play, cameras manned by mannequins will appear in various spots around the map, and behind the jeep in the middle area of the map an audience of mannequins will appear. Shooting audience members will result in them booing you and even throwing flashbangs at you. But they aren’t the biggest threat. Similar to the Nuketown easter eggs found in Black Ops 3 and 4, mannequins will come to life and chase you as if they were zombies.

After some initial concern that Treyarch had broken its streak of putting a Nuketown easter egg in every Black Ops game, CoD veterans like myself can breathe a sigh of relief. However, that doesn’t mean you can sit back and relax – you may need to spend some time sorting out your best Black Ops 6 loadouts, because not only have new weapons like the Krig C and Saug entered the game, but Treyarch has made balance changes to a dozen weapons in an attempt to further spice up the multiplayer meta.

There are also plenty more secrets to uncover in the FPS game, so make sure you consult our Black Ops 6 Zombies easter eggs guide to find out how to solve them.
