Players are in for a real challenge when trying to complete the following stages in Vampire Survivors.

While some of these end up unexceptional, a select few across the DLC stand out as characters that can build into game-destroying warriors. Here are the best DLC characters available in Vampire Survivors and which pack they come in.

Updated November 13, 2024 by Connor Hogg: The developers of Vampire Survivors continue to add hidden characters in massive updates and new DLC packs full of secrets and strategy, more and more characters take the spotlight as the powerhouses of the bullet hell roguelike. While some characters from previous DLC deserve a second glance, the newer cast from the Ode To Castlevania DLC blows some of the earlier favorites out of the water.

12 Isaac

Ode To Castlevania – Evolve The Mace

Vampire Survivors - Isaac, Castlevania

  • Gains a random Familiar as a follower every 10 levels. No cap.

One of the first secret characters that will be unlocked by players making their way through the Ode To Castlevania DLC will be Isaac, the main villain in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness and one of the primary antagonists in the animated show. Players will unlock the evil Demon by first unlocking Hector – by collecting 7 Karma Coins in the new map – then evolving his weapon with the Hollow Heart.

This will allow players to become Isaac, who attacks with a trident which damages close enemies in a V shape. Isaac’s main draw, however, is his potential army of Familiars, who will distract enemies, provide valuable defense, follow the player, and even attack foes with their own independent attacks.

11 Alucard

Ode To Castlevania – Defeat The Doppelganger With Trevor Belmont

Vampire Survivors: Alucard - castlevania expansion

  • +100 Max Health
  • +2 Armor
  • +50% Move Speed
  • Immune To Health Drain

Perhaps the most iconic of the Castlevania characters to find their way into Vampire Survivors, Alucard – the son of Dracula – crashes into action with a bevy of new mechanics. Players must find the Art Gallery in the Ode To Castlevania map to unlock the vampire and defeat the Doppelganger enemy there. This fight, against an imitation of the player themselves, will be quite difficult, but beating it with Trevor Belmont will allow players to take on the mantle of the Dhampir Prince.

Alucard is unique in that he has hidden skills with certain triggers to help fans clear hordes of enemies. Levelling up triggers the flamethrower-like pickup, overhealing will summon more attacks and, once per revival, Alucard will see a mighty sword cleave through enemies when his health gets low.

10 Vlad Tepes Dracula

Ode To Castlevania – Beat The Ode To Castlevania Stage with Richter Belmont

vampire survivors - ode to castlevania - dracula

  • 666 Max Health
  • +100% Might
  • +100% Greed
  • +10 Reroll
  • +10 Skip
  • +10 Banish
  • Immune To Health Drain

Defeating the challenge of the Ode To Castlevania stage using Richter and opening the final coffin will unlock Dracula himself for fans of the franchise to sink their teeth into. Dracula’s stats are impressive from the off, with huge bonuses to Might ensuring he will deal massive damage to any who get in range of his Wine Glass weapon. His special effects are what makes him frighteningly powerful though.

Gaining 1% Might every level and capping all incoming damage at 10 means that any run will be hard to shut down after Dracula starts to level up. Every 100 levels, players will be rewarded with another Revival, to push the vampire even further. Even gaining Curse increases Might, making this one of the easiest options for putting together builds that will shred any foe.

9 Je-Ne-Viv

Tides Of The Foscari – Defeat 100,000 Enemies With Genevieve Gruyere In A Single Run

Je-Ne-Viv using World Eater in Vampire Survivors

  • +150 Max Health
  • +5 Armor
  • +50% Might
  • +50% Greed
  • +50% Magnet
  • +7 Reroll

A super powerful part of the second DLC pack, Je-Ne-Viv is a strange inhuman hybrid of a couple of different character sprites. Starting with both the Shadow Servant weapon, which fires exploding snake creatures at enemies with a chance to slow damaged foes, and the hidden weapon Insatiable, which creates a large damaging area in the shape of a skull.

Both of these weapons are very effective against the undead hordes, but Je-Ne-Viv is made even more powerful by a permanent +1% to Might and Curse stats with every level up and with no upper limit. This makes for a build that has ridiculously high damage output.

8 Imposter

Emergency Meeting – Evolve The Report!

Vampire Survivors Imposter Rina

  • +20 Max Health
  • +20% Move Speed
  • +20% Might

A guest appearance by one of the iconic characters from Among Us, the Impostor is quite easy to unlock when the DLC has been purchased. Despite the ease of accessing the character, they quickly stand out as an easy choice compared to the standard characters in the game. The Impostor starts with the Sharp Tongue weapon that homes in on nearby enemies to deal large chunks of damage.

After defeating many enemies, the Impostor becomes briefly much stronger, destroys all onscreen enemies, and becomes invulnerable for the duration of the effect. The Impostor’s potential to explode into an impossible-to-damage wrecking ball means that players would be wise to try it out as they start to explore the DLC.

7 Luminaire

Tides Of The Foscari – Break The Seal Of The Abyss In Abyss Foscari

Victory Sword and Luminaire weapons in Vampire Survivors

  • +0.5 Recovery
  • +40% Move Speed
  • +7 Revival
  • +5 Banish

Bringing the evolved Eskizzibur weapon to break the seal in Abyss Foscari will make Luminaire Foscari available to utilize. Wielding the Prismatic Missile, Luminaire will call down explosive projectiles from the top of the screen that will spin around the player to protect them from the oncoming enemies.

In addition to utilizing a powerful weapon, Luminaire is built to survive till the end of any stage, with every level-up destroying any on-screen enemies. Every time she revives, she gains a long period of invincibility, increased damage and movement speed, and a huge buff to cooldown. This means stacking Luminaire with revival equipment and Arcanas can make her one of the strongest characters in the game.

6 Megalo Syuuto

Legacy Of The Moonspell – Defeat 100,000 Enemies With Syuuto In A Single Run

Megalo Syuuto in the Inlaid Library in Vampire Survivors

  • +150 Max Health
  • +2 Armor
  • +20% Move Speed
  • +50% Might
  • +50% Greed
  • +50% Curse

If players can survive for long enough with the base version of the character, they will be able to purchase Megalo Syuuto Moonspell. This iteration of the character starts with the surprisingly underwhelming Night Sword weapon, but when it is evolved this becomes the Muramasa, which can swipe quickly at nearby enemies as well as deal retaliation damage to anyone who hits the player.

While Vampire Survivors basically created a whole subgenre of games similar to it, not all of them are ‘carbon copies’, such as these games.

When Muramasa is acquired, Megalo Syuuto can rely on his incredible stats that make him able to tank damage, move quickly, and deal incredible amounts of destruction around him, all the while cursing him to fight more enemies with more health.

5 Babi-Onna

Legacy Of The Moonspell – Evolve The Summon Night

Vampire Survivors, Babi-Onna

  • +10 Reroll
  • Ignores Cooldown Stat

Perhaps the most unique and strange character here, Babi-Onna attacks in a very individual way that will set her apart in effective builds. Players are required to learn how she works before they will be able to make her as effective as she can be.

Babi-Onna strikes poses as she moves, and each pose will use one of her weapons. The faster she moves, the faster she will pose. This means that if Babi-Onna uses projectile weapons that rely on a large number of attacks, she will likely be defeated. Using tools with longer cooldowns can allow for rapid use of attacks that players must normally wait for.

4 Bahamut

Operation Guns – Defeat Big Fuzz In Neo Galuga

vampire-survivors-crossing-over-with-contra-operation-guns-dlc-soon-april-2024

  • +100 Max Health
  • +2 Armor
  • +80% Move Speed
  • +50% Might
  • +25% Magnet

Starting with pretty impressive passive stat bonuses, Colonel Bahamut is a powerful character featured in the Operation Guns DLC. Players will have to unlock the second map in the DLC pack, and then defeat a tricky boss, but will be rewarded with a character who has a very unique passive: for every +1% of Greed or Curse that Bahamut has, his Might will increase by 1%.

This can allow him to quickly scale to throw out massive damage against the hordes. His unique weapon, Metal Claw, is a piercing projectile that hits a large area, and Bahamut can even find special powerups in light sources, like Grenades and Rapid Fires.

3 Megalo Menya

Legacy Of The Moonspell – Defeat 100,000 Enemies With Menya In A Single Run

Megalo Menya in the Inlaid Library in Vampire Survivors

  • -20 Max Health
  • +100% Move Speed
  • +100% Might
  • -20% Cooldown
  • +108 Banish

Mastering the original version of Menya will reward players with the super-charged Megalo Menya Moonspell character. Playing as Megalo Menya will make reaching the time limit on any stage a breeze; she cannot be harmed by any source of damage but will leave as soon as the time limit is reached. This means she cannot try to defeat the reapers or survive to minute 31.

Her massive movement speed increase makes her an obvious choice to explore any new stages and collect relics. Fans will also recognize how useful it is that Megalo Menya starts with the 108 Bocce weapon without it filling up a slot, meaning she can make her perfect build while still dealing damage to any enemies who enter the player’s range.

2 Scientist

Emergency Meeting – Evolve Lucky Swipe

Vampire Survivors - Scientist from Emergency Meeting

  • -10% Luck every 10 levels, until level 90

It might appear from the information given on the character selection screen that the Scientist is likely to be an underpowered character, perhaps to be used by players for an additional challenge. However, every 10 level-ups until players reach 50, the Scientist can choose to be given a bonus of 1% of either Might, Area, Speed, Duration, Recovery, Growth, Luck, Greed, Curse, or Move Speed.

There is no cap for how high these can go, so it can lead to many different overpowered builds for Scientist Mina. She will scale better than almost every other character as she levels up, and her starting weapon, the Science Rocks, does area damage, hits multiple times, and staggers enemies. A jack-of-all-trades that players should race to get their hands on.

1 Sammy

Tides Of The Foscari – Defeat 6000 Sammy The Caterpillar

Vampire survivors - Sammy The Caterpillar Character and Enemies

When Vampire Survivors has to start a game with a handicap, the character must be powerful. Sammy starts with a low Might that will decrease the amount of damage his attacks do, but as he levels he grows out of this debuff.

Meanwhile, he starts with the evolved Vicious Hunger, which roams around the screen transmuting enemies into gold. Sammy’s unique bonus means that gold drops give him experience points, so having a high luck stat and picking up heaps of money will skyrocket a Sammy run to high levels and higher damage.
