Final Fantasy 14 is full of rare items allowing players to customize their characters exactly how they like, and new to Patch 7.1 are new weapon designs from the game’s official Weapon Design Contest. The designs were originally revealed during a live broadcast with the game’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, however, the method to obtain these weapons was kept as a mystery. With the new update now in players’ hands, the source of these highly desired items has been confirmed.




The first set of Weapon Design Contest winners were added back in 2023 during the game’s Endwalker expansion, but the remainder of the winning designs were unobtainable within the game itself until Patch 7.1. In contrast with the first set of designs, these weapons are more light-hearted in nature, featuring gag weapon concepts such as a pair of toy sharks wielded as fist weapons, or a ladle and pot lid used as a paladin’s sword and shield. At the time of writing, the only known way to obtain the newly added weapon design contest winners are from Figmental Weapon Coffers. There are chests that grant the player a weapon corresponding to their current job when opened. Figmental Weapon Coffers can be found as part of Treasure Hunts from deciphered Timeworn Br’aaxskin Maps. The treasure maps themselves appear randomly but not uncommonly while gathering from level 100 nodes and fishing holes which can be found across Heritage Found, Shaaloani, Living Memory, and Yak T’el. After gathering a treasure map, an 18-hour timer starts, preventing players from gathering another one until the timer is up.

While players are limited to gathering one map per 18-hour period, players who don’t have their gatherers levelled, or those who would like to expedite the process can alternatively obtain Timeworn Br’aaxskin Maps by purchasing them from other players on the Market Board. Although players can only hold one Timeworn Br’aaxskin Map in their inventory at a time, this limit can be extended by deciphering a map into a Br’aaxskin Treasure Map, as well as placing additional Timeworn Br’aaxskin Maps into additional inventories, such as the Chocobo Saddlebag, as well as each retainer’s inventory for a maximum of five treasure maps held at a time, with more being possible for players who hire additional retainers.


Alternative Methods to get Figmental Weapon Coffers

As loot from Treasure Hunts can be exceedingly rare, it may be a while before players happen upon a chance to earn a Figmental Weapon Coffer for themselves. For players who would rather skip testing their luck, Figmental Weapon Coffers are tradeable items, allowing them to be listed on the Market Board and sold between players for gil. While this option can save players the trouble of treasure hunting themselves, the rarity of these weapons combined with their high demand will likely make them very expensive, requiring players to farm up some gil before they can afford the purchase.
