Netflix’s Wednesday is one of the streamer’s most popular shows. News about the second season had come to a bit of a standstill until a shocking announcement was made this week.
After the show’s massive success in late 2022, fans were eager for more. Season 2 was confirmed shortly after the show’s release in January 2023, but there haven’t been many updates following that. Jenna Ortega, who plays the role of the titular character, has since launched into superstardom and secured herself a producer credit for the upcoming season. She’s expressed her excitement for the continuation of the show, but has remained tight-lipped about spilling anything too major. One thing the actress did let fans know is the fact that she has more creative input than she did the first time around. Other than that, details thus far have been kept very under wraps. Wednesday‘s first season ended on such a cliffhanger that fans have been theorizing what will come next nonstop. What they didn’t predict was that another superstar, of a different kind, would be along for the ride as well.

Production for Wednesday Season 2 is underway, with Jenna Ortega hinting at a darker, more horror-inspired direction that fans have eagerly awaited.
According to Entertainment Weekly, a source revealed that none other than Lady Gaga would be joining the cast for the next season. As of right now nothing is known about her role, but the source reported that she is currently filming the show in Europe. The multi-hyphenate has been focused much more on acting the last few years, with Joker: Folie à Deux coming out just last month and one Lead Actress nomination under her belt prior to that, so it makes sense that she’d be drawn to a show like Wednesday. She definitely hasn’t let her music fall by the wayside, though. She was just nominated for a Grammy for her collaboration with Bruno Mars on their hit song “Die With A Smile”, and she is currently working on another album as well. So Gaga certainly has a lot of balls in the air right now.
It is somewhat ironic that Gaga will now be an official part of the show, following the popularity of a fan-made edit that merged her song “Bloody Mary” with an iconic dance scene featuring Ortega and a lot of fake blood. After going viral, several different versions started popping up. The original TikTok and trend got so popular that Gaga herself made a response video, in which she replicates the dance. It’s probably worth noting that Ortega, has already expressed an interest in having Gaga on the show and said in an interview with Variety that she’d want her character and Gaga’s to be “[…] two monsters that understand each other”. Could this be a hint for what’s to come? Viewers will have to wait until 2025 to see!
The show has maintained an impressive steady following despite the fact that it followed Netflix’s somewhat typical trend of two years passing between seasons. It’s not hard to figure out why, with such a talented cast and such a fun and campy presence. Gaga, who has some prior experience in the world of television on American Horror Story, is sure to add to the natural wackiness of the show in the best possible way.
Wednesday is available to stream on Netflix.
