Key Takeaways

  • The Life and Death expansion in Sims 4 introduces new funeral objects like coffins, crypts, podiums, gravestones, photo frames, cannons, wreaths, and grave sites.
  • Sims can now Woohoo in coffins, explore catacombs in crypts, give personalized eulogies at podiums, and fire memorial cannons in honor of deceased Sims.
  • New flower arrangements for a more memorial mood have been added, along with gravesites that allow Sims to have proper burial spots for the deceased.

Just because a life has ended doesn’t mean that the party has to end. In The Sims 4: Life and Death expansion, Sims have the chance to throw more intricate and detailed funerals than ever before. New activities have been added to mourn the deceased, and with those activities has come a whole catalog of new objects.

Summon the power of the legions of the dead in the Sims 4.

Some of these objects are spins on old classics and some are totally new – but all of them are perfect for any sort of funeral a Sim might want, be it solemn or swinging. These are all the funeral objects included in The Sims 4: Life and Death expansion.

Coffin

Don’t Come A’Knocking…

A coffin from the Sims 4. It is a rich brown and surrounded by candles.

Coffins have been in The Sims 4 ever since Vampires were introduced back in 2017. Back then they were just for sleeping in. But with the arrival of a fleshed out funeral system, coffins were no longer just for bloodsuckers. Regular Sims can make use of coffins for funeral rituals.

Coffins come in all sorts of price ranges, which is helpful for the economical family. They can even be Woohoo’d in – which would no doubt amuse Sims with the new Macabre trait. An event in Ravenwood is even dedicated to coffins where Sims can “try before they buy”.

7

Crypt

A Cryptic Spot

A crypt from the Sims 4. It is a massive stone structure mausoleum.

Crypts make their return from The SIms 3 in Life and Death – and boy did they ever make it big. Crypts are a new rabbithole location primarily used for storing urns, but other things can be done as well. Sims can nap in the crypts, or tell ghost stories with their friends. They can even Woohoo.

But the biggest feature with Crypts is the exploration mechanic. A text-based adventure was added for Sims who brave the catacombs, and the outcome of the story can vary based on individual Sims. Delve down under the ground and see what lies in wait.

Podium

Speak Their Truth

A podium for giving eulogies from the Sims 4. It is a rich brown.

Summing up an entire life is no small feat. For those Sims who brave giving a eulogy, the podium item was updated for Life and Death. Originally introduced in City Living, Life and Death has added several new interactions for memorializing.

Sims can give eulogies specific to the deceased. These eulogies can be funny or solemn, and Sims can state in their wills which kinds of eulogies they would like after they pass. Discussing the life of a Sim could be hard (even if they did everything on their Bucket List), but the podium is there to help make things as smooth as possible.

5

Gravestones

Memento Mori, Sim

Three gravestones sit in a line in a cemetery.

Gravestones have been a feature in The Sims since the original game. When a Sim dies, the body may be gone but the soul remains…alongside a sculpture of stone. These gravestones can be placed by the mourning (or sold by the callous) on the lot, with gravestones placed inside a house being turned into urns.

An entire catalog of urns and gravestones were added to the game in Life and Death, allowing for even more customization. Now Sims can have a monument that fits them exactly…or they can get something abandoned and decrepit. Sometimes even Sims can be jerks and go unmourned.

4

Memorial Photo Frames

Oh, Remember When?

A memorial photograph frame, surrounded by flowers, stands on a table.

Photos are a powerful reminder of those who have gone. While the player may have screenshots of their games, it is important to remember to have Sims take in-game photos of each other. These photos can be placed in photo frames, including several new frames that were added in Life and Death.

These clothes are to die for.

One of the most prominent memorial items is the memorial photo frame. Headshots of the deceased can be placed to the side for services, and then can be removed to reuse the frame. The frame can also be used outside of funerals for those who want to have a framed memory of the deceased at all times.

3

Memorial Cannon

It’s What Grandma Would Want

A Sim fires a memorial cannon in a graveyard.

Funeral customs can be different all around the world – including the Sim World. Everyone has a different idea about what they would like at their funeral. For some people, that includes the glorious glory that is the Memorial Cannon.

The Memorial Cannon is exactly what it sounds like. Small cannons are scattered throughout Ravenwood (and can be bought in Buy Mode) that can be fired in honor of a deceased Sim. Confetti shoots out the end once fired in a tribute everyone at the funeral is sure to remember. For Sims that were characters in life, there’s no greater honor they can receive in death.

2

Memorial Wreaths

Rosemary For Remembrance

A memorial wreath made out of orange and red flowers stands in a room, finished with a blue bow.

Flowers have been a part of funerals for centuries. Initially used to cover the less pleasant parts of death, funeral flower arrangements have become larger and more impressive as time goes on. The Victorians even used hair in their arrangements.

Never worry: the floral arrangements in Life and Death are nowhere near as ‘creative’ as the Victorians used. But several arrangements that fit in a more memorial mood were added to the game with the new expansion. Flowers can be a great comfort in a trying situation, so make sure to put some up for your grieving Sims.

1

Grave Site

Dust To Dust

A grave site in the Sims 4. It is a flat stone slab with a photo on top.

While The Sims 4 has always had graves, they’ve always been small affairs. Little gravestones piled in the back of a lot, or moved into makeshift cemeteries. However, no longer will the dead be forced into small spaces. With the grave sites, the dead can take up all the space they like.

Grave sites work much like the crypt does. Simply place the grave of a deceased Sim onto it and it becomes their burial spot. Sims can then visit and mourn over the grave site as they please. Grave sites make cemeteries look like actual cemeteries, and add life (ironically) to a lot.
