Oshi no Ko: The Final Act, a live action movie adaptation, just dropped a new trailer. This film is a sequel to the live-action series Oshi no Ko, slated to premiere globally on November 28, 2024, on Amazon Prime Video. The series is scheduled to have 8 episodes.
Although not officially confirmed, it’s likely the series will debut all episodes at once, because the movie is slated to hit Japanese theaters on December 20, so a weekly schedule would not deliver all the episodes on time. The cast includes former Nogizaka46 member Asuka Saito as Ai Hoshino, Kaito Sakurai (Netflix’s Kimi ni Todoke live-action series) as Aqua, and former =LOVE member Nagisa Saito as Ruby.

Oshi no Ko Mangaka Aka Akasaka Confirms Major Plans For A New Manga Series
Aka Akasaka’s next manga series debuts in Spring 2025, teaming up with Aji Chika and Aoi Kujira for an exciting fantasy adventure.
The trailer previews the theme song, “SHINING SONG”, performed by B Komachi. Some scenes might be from the TV series adaptation because they seem to be from the start of the start of the story.
While there is no international release scheduled for the movie yet, considering the series will stream globally and is co-produced by Amazon and Toei, it’s likely the film will also be available for international audiences. Maybe it will not be released in cinemas, but it might be dropped on Amazon Prime Video a few weeks or months after premiering in Japan.
What to Expect from the Oshi no Ko Live Action
Oshi no Ko is not an action series that would require lots of special effects to be adapted, so a live-action production doesn’t need any insane budget to work out fine. From the trailers and the cast, it seems the production is working hard to deliver good music-related performances in the series — both Asuka and Nagisa were previously part of idol groups. Kaito is not from any boyband, but he was the drummer for the band Inner Journey before establishing his acting and modeling careers.
So far, Oshi no Ko live action trailers deliver a seemingly down-to-earth production that fans will be able to enjoy. Screenwriter Ayako Kitagawa has a solid background creating or adapting series for TBS-MBS, TV Tokyo and NHK. Former actress Hana Matsumoto and filmmaker known as Smith (who directed video clips for band such as Ikimono-gakari and Snow Man) are directing the productions.
The Tragic Idol Story of Oshi no Ko
Oshi no Ko starts when Goro Amemiya has to secretly conduct Ai Hoshino’s delivery, of whom he is a big fan. Hoshino is a huge idol, and her pregnancy was kept secret. Unfortunately, one of her stalkers kills him right before the babies are born, and he ends up reincarnating as one of her children. Ai gives birth to twins, a boy (Aqua) and a girl (Ruby). Now the son of his favorite idol, Goro/Aqua will soon learn that this industry is not easy to handle, in a plot that involves murder, music, and revenge.
Oshi no Ko ran in Shueisha’s Young Jump magazine since April 2020 and is set to conclude on November 13, 2024. The series was created by Aka Akasaka (Kaguya-sama: Love is War) and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. An anime adaptation aired in 2023, with plans for a third season recently revealed.
Oshi no Ko live-action TV series streams globally on Amazon Prime Video on November 28, 2024. The sequel movie hits Japanese theaters on December 20, with no international release confirmed so far.
