Metaphor: ReFantazio has a lot of achievements that focus on the journey the protagonist is on, with Sword Surfer being one of the more vague ones. All that it states is that players must travel a significant distance while blade-riding.




Blade Riding is unlocked as soon as you begin the first stretch of free time in Grand Trad, and getting this achievement naturally will require you to start working on it right away. This achievement can also be bugged, making it impossible to get; here are some ways to get and fix the achievement.

If you’ve been playing Metaphor: ReFantazio for a long time and are near the end of the game without this achievement despite always sword surfing, it’s possible your achievement is bugged. At the time of writing, there is no confirmation on the bug’s effects or if it has been fixed, but a common fix is a full turn-off and turn-back-on of your system, along with the game. Just be sure to save your progress first.


Turn the game off but also completely power down your system, before restarting the game. While this is a common fix, it’s not a guarantee. If this doesn’t reward you the achievement right away, continue to play the game while sword surfing whenever you can, as some players have reported getting the achievement after some time not sword surfing. While an exact number is not given, this achievement will take a while to get, though there are some ways to speed up the process.

The main trick to getting this achievement is completing a regular playthrough, but sword surf everywhere you go. This may not always have you hit the goal depending on your playstyle, though there are a few locations you can fast travel to and easily sword surf around to quickly travel far distances.


  • Grand Trad – Regalith Grand Cathedral: This main plaza of the city offers a large loop with little foot traffic that can easily be surfed around to get the achievement quickly.
  • Brilehaven – Merchant’s Bazaar: The street that goes through the Merchant’s Bazaar to the podium has little foot traffic, leaving you easily loop around and get good mileage in.

There is no way to track this achievement, so it’s also not clear if the bug is getting rid of old progress or simply freezing progress at some point. If you just want the trophy and nothing else, do the full shut down then be prepared to surf around one of the two locations mentioned above for anywhere between five and thirty minutes.
