Key Takeaways
- McDonald’s creating a Pokemon Pocket Big Mac card has got players wondering what it might be teasing.
- Pokemon will almost certainly put Pokemon cards in Happy Meals again, potentially as soon as the end of November.
- This might just be teasing that, or it could be hinting at an in-app McDonald’s promotion of some kind.
Pokemon and McDonald’s have been working together for more than a decade, the former putting cards from its TCG in Happy Meals since 2011. It tends to happen annually at around this time of year, but a tease for the assumed collab by McDonald’s France has people thinking this year’s fast food trading card offering might come with a twist.
McDonald’s French Twitter account shared a mocked-up image of a Big Mac card made to look like it was one they’d pulled from a pack in Pokemon TCG Pocket. Not only is the card an illustration rare which shows an animated version of the restaurant chain’s signature sandwich as if it has just been pulled from a virtual pack, but it has a five-star rarity rating. For the uninitiated, the rarest cards in Pocket so far are three stars and then Crown Rares, so yeah, this Big Mac is quite the specimen.

If you’re already fed up of all the duplicates, this might be when more cards, packs, and even the next expansion will be added to Pocket.
Despite its impressive rarity, the Big Mac’s stats are pretty middling compared to some of the more powerful cards currently available in Pocket. 120 HP and its moves, Secret Sauce and Double Steak, deal 30 and 120 damage, respectively. It’ll take four McDonald’s energies to use Double Steak, but on the bright side, the burger-mon’s weakness appears to be hunger, so nothing currently in Pocket will have the upper hand against it.
Hunger feels like the wrong call. Surely teeth, or customers, or my five-year-old son who is done with his food and is now eyeing up mine would have been better picks for its weakness.

Big Mac Used Secret Sauce, It Was Super Effective
As for where the art for this card came from, Pokemon fans are pretty split. PokeBeach, which confirmed back in August that Pokemon cards will return to McDonald’s again this year, claims the Big Mac card is officially commissioned artwork. Despite that claim, others aren’t so sure, especially with the credited artist listed as “McDonald’s France”. Some even think the card has AI art hallmarks, although I get the feeling Pokemon would have asked McDonald’s to take the post down if that were the case.
Even though McDonald’s has used Pocket to generate hype for its upcoming Pokemon collab, I still think it will be another straightforward crossover that puts cards in Happy Meals. McDonald’s currently has Mario Kart toys in its Happy Meals and that won’t change until November 25, after which point the Pokemon promotion will likely replace it. Time to start building a McRib deck and figuring out how you’ll counteract the Quarter Pounder meta, just in case.
