Mass Effect's Amazon TV Show May Involve John Cena

Key Takeaways

  • Peacemaker lead actor John Cena has set the tongues of Mass Effect fans wagging after posting an image of the series to his Twitter account.
  • This comes shortly after it was revealed that a Mass Effect TV show is in development at Amazon, with some viewing the post as a tease for his involvement.
  • it could also just be nonsense though, as Cena has one of the more bizarre Instagram accounts out there, which contains random, captionless images that are left up to “our interpretation”.

Last week, it was revealed that Amazon MGM Studios has a Mass Effect TV show in full development, which has been rumored ever since the company bought the TV rights to the series from EA way back in 2021. While details were scarce (and still are), it was claimed that Fast & Furious 9 writer David Casey will write and executive produce.

That’s all we know about the project right now, as the show’s plot, release date, and potential leads are all being kept a closely guarded secret. However, it seems as though one actor potentially involved in the project has been a little cheeky on social media, as Peacemaker lead and professional wrestler John Cena posted a picture of the Mass Effect 2 crew to his personal Instagram shortly after the TV announcement was made.

We can see from the picture that Cena posted the image of Mass Effect 2 four days ago, which was just two days after it was revealed the TV show was in development. That could either mean that Cena is simply quite excited about the prospect of a Mass Effect TV show, like pretty much every fan of the series, or it could be a sneaky hint that Cena is involved.

To make the case for the latter, we know that Cena is a bit of a gamer, having talked about his love for video games in various interviews over the years. Fast & Furious 9 writer David Casey could also be a strong hint about Cena’s potential involvement, as those that have actually seen the movie will know that Cena plays the villain Jakob Toretto, so the two have worked together before.

Please Don’t Make The Mass Effect Show Anything Like Fallout

Amazon had great success adapting Fallout, but Mass Effect should be done differently.

We also know that Cena has used his Instagram account to tease things in the past, having posted a picture of the Twitch streamer Kai Cenat shortly before appearing on one of his streams. Unfortunately, the rest of his Instagram account could also debunk the theory, as it’s easily one of the strangest celebrity Instagram accounts out there.

Cena has a very bizarre relationship with Instagram, as while he’s actually very active on the platform, he posts nothing but nonsense half of the time. His recent posts are a mixture of strange images, memes, and pictures of celebrities, and Cena even leans into this aspect of his account by explaining in his bio that these captionless pictures are posted “for our interpretation”.

So, this Mass Effect could either be a genuine tease that he’s involved, or a half-baked thought about the series one afternoon when he was needing an image to post. Either way, it’s interesting to imagine Cena potentially playing a character like Commander Shepard, though fans already reckon he’d make a better Grunt or Wrex. I think we can definitely rule out him playing Miranda though.
