After a long wait and frustrating delays, Peacemaker fans have finally received a short teaser for the upcoming season two release on HBO and Max. The new footage, included in Max’s 2025 promo trailer, showcases a look at John Cena and other characters, but in a recent post, series creator, James Gunn, shared a “stressed out” GIF on Instagram when asked if the highly anticipated TV show was finally done and dusted. Based on the DC Comics character, Christopher Smith, Peacemaker is a spin-off from the 2021 film The Suicide Squad and revolves around the narrative set after the film ended, which explores the pacifist diplomat Smith as he joins the A.R.G.U.S. black ops squad whose goal is to track down and destroy butterfly-like creatures who have made humans their playground.

Peacemaker season two has been hotly anticipated by Cena fans since the first season ended in February 2022, and although James Gunn previously revealed that the series would release sometime after Superman in 2025, he shared Max’s 2025 promo teaser for the upcoming show on social media, confirming that it would return and premiere on the streaming service Max. This exciting announcement also showcased a small glimpse at what’s in store for season two in regard to new plotlines, as well as cast members.

Taking to Instagram’s threads, James Gunn initially talked about his puppy visiting the Peacemaker set in a bid to socialize his adorable dog with others, but things quickly turned to fans asking when season two of the show would be finalized. Replying to the fan, Gunn chose a very stressed out GIF of Stewie from Family Guy sitting on the ground with his arms crossed, while rocking back and forth, indicating that the filming process for the show has been pretty overwhelming for the director. Along with the anxious GIF, Gunn said that shooting for Peacemaker season two was still ongoing. This isn’t the first time he has taken to Threads to share an opinion, as lately, Gunn shot down rumors that claimed Haunting of Hill House‘s Victoria Pedretti was in talks to play Harley in a Batverse project directed by Matt Reeves.

Echoing Gunn’s Peacemaker season two release window, John Cena also put a firm 2025 premiere in place for the return of Peacemaker season 2 while speaking to The Direct on the red carpet for his latest project, Jackpot!. Cena said that he was hopeful it would debut next year but couldn’t elaborate further on an actual solid release date. As for Max’s latest promo trailer drop, the short teaser featured Peacemaker in some action scenes, which hints that season two could unravel the character’s universe more than it did in season one. The promo also introduced Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr, who will make his first appearance in the animated series Creature Commandos, and a bloodied Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt.

With such a huge gap between Peacemaker season one in 2022 and its 2025 season two release, fans’ anticipation is now at an all-time high. Thankfully, Gunn is expected to introduce even more DC cameos as season two of Peacemaker rolls in, which is sure to delight long-term and new viewers to its adrenaline-fueled, superhero world.
