When Dragon Quest 3 Remake was first announced, one of the most exciting aspects was the thought that Square Enix would be adding some much needed quality-of-life improvements to this classic JRPG. How to Change Battle Speed in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Changing Battle Speed in Dragon Quest 3 Remake is not difficult, but it is actually a bit easy to miss if you do not know where to find it. Despite the fact that the prompt is always on-screen during combat, if it’s not pointed out, it’s surprisingly hard to find.
To change Battle Speed in DQIII Remake, wait until you are in a combat encounter, then look in the top left corner of the screen. There you will find the system that controls the speed of battle.
Dragon Quest 3 Remake has three speeds you can play at:
- Normal – the default speed, same as the original game.
- Fast – a considerably faster speed, about twice as fast as the normal speed.
- Ultra-Fast – incredibly fast combat, much more than the previous setting.
To switch between Battle Speed, press the right bumper whenever you have access to the combat menu.
Why Change Battle Speeds?
While it may seem like a trivial mechanic at first, after playing for any amount of time, you will come to understand why having the ability to change Battle Speed was such a highly-requested addition to Dragon Quest 3 Remake.
Given the nature of combat encounters in DQIII, which occur in quick succession whenever you are in specific areas (most of the game), having the ability to speed up those encounters significantly improves overall enjoyment. Eventually, most players will likely prefer the Ultra-Fast speed, as it simply keeps the encounter length to a minimum.
For those that do not mind a slower pace, the Fast speed will still give you time to fully experience each encounter, without the worry that it will become too monotonous.
