Helldivers 2’s Truth Enforcers Warbond Makes a Considerable Step Forward for One Feature

Helldivers 2’s Truth Enforcers Warbond Makes a Considerable Step Forward for One Feature

Helldivers 2 took the world by storm with its release earlier this year. What started as a little-hyped sequel to a modestly successful top-down shooter has exploded into one of the most popular titles of the year and a strong contender for Game of the Year nominations. And the developers at Arrowhead have been quick to keep the hype train rolling with consistent content updates in the form of warbonds, which combine the sense of progression afforded by a battle pass with none of the FOMO since they all stick around in perpetuity.

The latest warbond to hit Super Earth’s Armed Forces is titled Truth Enforcers, and it’s possibly the best one Arrowhead has dropped yet. With slick vehicle skins, blazing new weapons, and shiny new armor, the red and black aesthetic of this warbond really hammers home the satire of Helldivers 2: Super Earth are the bad guys, and they love every second of it. But as good as Truth Enforcers is, there’s one cosmetic item that stands head and shoulders above its peers and could be the start of something beautiful for the game.

Helldivers 2 has yet to deliver one piece of content, which Arrowhead Game Studios has teased and perhaps should have already added.

Helldivers 2 Needs More Emotes Like At Ease

Helldivers 2’s At Ease Should Be the First of Many Emotes Like It

At first glance, the “At Ease” emote is relatively unassuming. It just lets the player strike a relaxed, yet dignified pose. It’s a pretty good emote to hit as a taunt after annihilating a bile titan or while watching a 380MM orbital barrage level an automaton stronghold. As much as the emote can be great to use at the perfect time, that’s not why it’s such a great addition to the warbond.

“At Ease” is arguably truly unique. There is no other emote currently in Helldivers 2 that simply lets players hit a pose and maintain it indefinitely. Certain emotes let players stand still indefinitely, but they’re broken if someone else follows suit and interacts with them. Emotes like the salute, the hug, chest bump, rock paper scissors, and the Predator-inspired arm wrestle all fall into this category. “At Ease” fully puts the player in control when it comes to how long they want to stay flexing on the enemies of democracy.

The emote itself also lends itself to a slightly sinister air. It’s a cool pose to strike, to be sure, but it leans into the territory of body language one would expect from a James Bond villain or a similarly maniacal manipulator. Arrowhead has been excellent so far in subtly reminding players that Super Earth is the major antagonist in the Helldivers 2 universe, and emotes like “At Ease” are fun, if not ominous little reminders that the players are not the heroes of this particular story.

Arrowhead would do well to incorporate more of these types of emotes in the future. Be the emotes more awesome poses to strike after completing a Helldivers 2 major order or goofy, lighthearted jests to lighten the mood in an otherwise tense match, there should be more like “At Ease.” This would be a welcome addition to the game’s roster of taunts, and it’s something that would make for a great little extra for future warbonds.
