Warhammer 40k Inquisitor: Martyr layers Games Workshop’s grim industrial-fantasy future over a Diablo style ARPG packed with plenty of Chaos hordes to blast your way through and loot to earn. It’s a rewarding romp that’s fun solo and a delight in co-op, but the introduction of its newest class means you’ll always have a squad watching your back regardless of how you play. As the Hierophant arrives, you can grab the base game and all previous DLC at a big discount if it’s been sitting on your wishlist but you’re yet to give it a try.
Much as Darktide lets you rip through Warhammer’s most dangerous forces in four-player co-op reminiscent of Valve’s Left 4 Dead series, Warhammer 40k Inquisitor: Martyr does much the same but in the vein of the best games like Diablo. Whether you play as a lone Inquisitor or team up with a group, you’ll be able to explore numerous planets and stations across the Caligari Sector, blasting apart heretics in the name of the Emperor.
It’s a remarkably robust ARPG and one of the best Warhammer 40k games of its era – Elliot’s Inquisitor: Martyr review for us found it to be a shining light back in 2018 when it first arrived, and developer Neocore Games has continued to update it and add new DLC since. Now, its latest addition has arrived – the Hierophant.
A former Ministorum priest turned Inquisition interrogator, the Hierophant is joined by his Inquisitorial Retinue, a set of Acolytes that you can issue orders to during battle. Rather than acting as disposable summons like the Tech-Priest’s Constructs, these Acolytes are permanent members of your squad that will earn their own skill points and perks, and you can gear them up as you wish to suit your needs.
The Hierophant himself is no slouch, however, bringing numerous blessings and spells to the battlefield along with his weapon and relic. He also gets a new type of belt, the Curio, which are unique items that make use of the Hierophants class-specific resource, Devotion, to grant both a passive aura and an on-use effect. There are also 14 additional perks designed to suit the new class.
Three subclasses let you determine how you want to specialize, each with its own starting gear. The Confessor uses lighter armor and a bolt pistol, utilizing holy flames to ignite his foes. The Cardinal wields a plasma pistol and boasts bonus Devotion, and his retinue’s reverence makes their attacks heal and buff him. The Drill Abbot is an imposing figure in Militant-Apostolic armor, wading into battle with a chainsword and inspiring righteous zeal in his companions to enhance their capabilities.
We recently saw the much-requested addition of the ability to play Warhammer 40k Inquisitor: Martyr in offline mode without needing to connect to the game’s servers, and the Hierophant is a great option if you’re planning to fly solo. Even better, to celebrate its launch a colossal Steam sale brings the base game and basically every previous piece of DLC down to a tiny fraction of its usual price, making now a top time to start playing.
The new Hierophant class DLC for Warhammer 40k Inquisitor: Martyr is out now, with a 10% launch discount until Tuesday November 26 meaning you’ll pay $13.49 / £11.51 to add it to your roster. The base game is also 80% off during that period, so expect to pay just $9.99 / £8.39 for it, with all previous DLC also available at a 70-80% saving.
