FlyQuest became the final team to qualify for the PW Shanghai Major 2024 from the Asia RMR, after three days of intense LAN action. We’ve also seen more results from the Americas RMR – let’s dive into it.
FlyQuest round out Asia RMR teams
Realistically, FlyQuest should always have been qualifying from the PW Shanghai Major 2024 Asia RMR, but we didn’t expect them to need to complete a full Lower Bracket run to do so. Today, they kicked things off with a 2:1 win against ohnePixel’s DRILLAS, and you have to say FlyQuest were very, very lucky. On the final map of Ancient, DRILLAS had several chances at map point to close out the series, but floundered at every opportunity to send FlyQuest back to Australia.
The final match against Lynn Vision was hardly a contest. The Chinese team managed to win just 10 rounds across the two maps combined, as FlyQuest secured that coveted final Major spot in Shanghai. This Aussie roster missed the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 earlier this year, so it’s a great bounceback for the team.
Wildcard and MIBR go 3:0 in Americas RMR
We also got our first qualifying teams from the Americas RMR, and it’s not who you might think. Wildcard were the first team to make it through, securing a debut Major for the Amouranth-owned organization. They’ve had an impressive run to make it through, topped off by a 2:0 victory over 9z Team in the final matchup. Now, we’re getting stanislaw’s first Major appearance since 2021, and Sonic’s first in a nine-year-long career.
Meanwhile, they’re joined by MIBR, the Brazilian team taking down Complexity to lock down a spot of their own. They’re another team who missed out last time around, so it was imperative they bounced back for this CS2 tournament. We didn’t necessarily have MIBR down as dead-certs to make it to the PW Shanghai Major 2024, but they can rest knowing they’ve secured their place at this early stage.
No surprises in eliminated teams
Across both RMRs, there have yet to be any major surprises in the eliminated teams so far. Today, we saw DRILLAS and TALON fail to make it out of the Asia RMR, but that was always a tossup. Over in the Americas RMR, we lost Case and Nouns, but it’s fair to say that this result was pretty expected for both.
There are still a few days left of the Americas RMR, so things will get interesting as we hurtle towards the conclusion over there. Let’s take a look at the current state of play for the PW Shanghai Major 2024 Americas RMR:
