Just like the original, Dragon Quest 3 Remake is a game based around leveling your character by facing ever-increasing challenges. Sometimes, however, the rate at which you increase seems to be just a bit slower than you’d like. In times like these, it helps to know how to level up fast, usually through taking advantage of specific areas and enemies, as is the case with Dragon Quest 3 Remake.

There have been many mainline titles in the Dragon Quest series throughout the years though some stand out above the rest.
In Dragon Quest 3 Remake, leveling up is more than just increasing your stats and attributes, though that is an important factor. Every spell and ability is tied to specific levels, and many times a party member will feel incredibly weak until they have certain skills. With this in mind, we are going to explore how players can level up as quickly as possible in Dragon Quest 3 Remake.
How to Level Up Fast in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Off the bat, it’s important to state that the fastest ways to level up in Dragon Quest 3 Remake are locked behind some story progression. Players just starting out will level up relatively fast, so it should not be too much of an issue before level 10. Still, those looking to take advantage of the best methods for leveling up should acquire the following items first:
- Thief’s Key: This is the main reward for completing the game’s first major dungeon, Dreamer’s Tower.
- Magic Key: This is the reward for defeating Ripper of the Rift, and completing the Pyramid dungeon.
- Ship: This is optional, as it is acquired near the game’s halfway point. You’ll get your ship after acquiring Black Pepper for the King of Portoga.
With those three items, you’ll be able to reach most locations in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, and the locations you can’t reach are likely what you were leveling up for in the first place.
Where to Level-Up Fast in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:
The most important enemy for leveling up fast is the Metal Slime, so we will be looking at locations in Dragon Quest 3 Remake where we have discovered them. There are three locations we have discovered so far that have featured multiple encounters with Metal Slime:
- Tower of Transcendence
- Orochi’s Lair
- Woods outside Persistence
How to Reach the Tower of Transcendence:
The Tower of Transcendence is located directly north from Alltrades Abbey, where players can change the vocation of their party members. If you have not found Alltrades Abbey yet, progress through the story until you need to collect Black Pepper. The abbey will be the last stop on that mission. See the map above for the exact location.
For us, the best location to level-up fast by far is the Tower of Transcendence. While it will take a bit of time to arrive, those who want to level up the party extremely fast should make this their go-to location. Really, the other locations are only here to give you options.
What makes this location so great is that nearly every enemy you encounter will reward you with high XP. If you are underleveled when you arrive, it may seem extremely difficult to get through. However, it’s better to level-up the Hero to the point where they can then carry the party members through if they have to. If one or two party members die and don’t receive all the XP, don’t fret. Revive them when you can, then return with the benefit of any levels you’ve gained.
Even without Metal Slime, because they are a rare encounter, the Ethereal Serpents you’ll encounter can net you 1000 XP per encounter when you find them in groups of three, which is fairly common on the mid-levels of the tower.
When you have a party member who has just changed vocations, there is no better location for leveling up fast, especially earlier in the game.
Persistence Woods Location:
Once you have your ship, and you are free to roam the seas, you’ll come across several areas where you can find Metal Slime. On the eastern side of the map, you’ll find the town of Persistence directly in the center of the northeastern continent. If you roam the woods on the small islands and peninsulas that make up the surrounding areas, you’ll encounter Metal Slime, though they are always rare.
Orochi’s Lair Location:
Orochi’s Lair is discovered as part of Jipang’s main quest. Jipang is a region found southeast of the Tower of Transcendence, on the islands that make up the continent’s southeastern corner. The main quest will take you to Orochi’s Lair, or you can simply head east out of the city, and you’ll see a cave formation in the rocks. The Metal Slime is extremely rare here, but the normal encounters are still great for high volume XP farming.
