Sakamoto vs Shin in the first chapter of Sakamoto Days.

The first fight in the series introduces us to our two main characters, Taro Sakamoto and Shin Asakura, in a fun mini-fight in Sakamoto’s convenience store.

Shin is an assassin who admires what Sakamoto used to be, and is tasked with killing him, although he is hesitant. What follows is a quick fight in the store, where we see that not only is Sakamoto still strong, but he can use a variety of mundane objects to get the job done.

This fight is great because it gives us some upgrades for Shin, in his ability to see the future in intense fights, as well as seeing another drunken side of Lu, where she turns into a protective Triad member.

6

Nagumo Versus Minimalist

This fight shows us just how much of a different level Nagumo is on than the rest of our party. The scene is also very intense and cathartic, as it begins with it looking like Minimalist will kill Aoi, only for it to actually be Nagumo in disguise.

Once this is revealed, the tables completely turn from a scary situation into a complete beatdown. More of what Nagumo has up his sleeves is revealed, and the serial killer who was thought to be the scariest is easily put down by him, leading to a surprisingly short, but very fun, end to Minimalist.

5

Encounter At The JAA

This isn’t one singular battle, but rather a short, but impactful, combination of small battles at the JAA. X, revealed to be Uzuki, alongside his underling Gaku, storm the JAA and wipe out one-third of the employees, before Sakamoto, Shin, and Apart crash into the building.

What ensues is a fast-paced, bloody battle between the big players. This fight shows how strong this new character Gaku is, how powerful Takamura is, and that Sakamoto and Shin need to train before they have a chance against X and his group.

4

Sakamoto Versus Kanaguri

This is one of those fights that is satisfying because of how irritating Kanaguri is as an antagonist. But he’s not just an annoying character in his personality, he is also able to hold his own against Sakamoto, which means it is not just a satisfying beatdown, but a worthwhile one v. one.

Sakamoto even has to break out his skinny form for the first time in a long while, which is always a hype moment to see. There are some fun and unique fight settings as well as choreography, like Kanaguri using his film reels as a tool in the battle. No matter how much you might hate Kanaguri, seeing someone be able to keep up with Skinny Sakamoto is worth giving them their flowers.

3

Sakamoto Versus Kashima

Sakamoto vs Kashima in the underground in Sakamoto Days.

This is probably the best fight in the early stages of the manga, and really sets the stage for what to expect from the future of the story, as well as future fights. Sakamoto takes on Kashima, the cyborg man in a suit and deer mask who is a subordinate of X.

This fight has it all. Kashima is a threat, with his myriad of blades, but Sakamoto uses creativity to help gain the advantage, which is very fun to see. The fight then ends with an amazing shot of Sakamoto in his slim form hiding behind Kashima on the train, proving there really was no contest once he got serious.

2

Takamura Versus Everyone

Takamura is one of the coolest, most mysterious characters in the story. Every time he appears, he displays an impressive amount of power, while not saying anything. In this battle, the old man takes on not one, not two, not even three, but four of our strongest characters, and boy is it a treat.

Ending off the museum arc, it’s revealed why Takamura is such a feared and respected member of the order. He faces off against Nagumo, Skinny Sakamoto, Gaku and Haruma, and they can barely make a scratch on him. The Fight is intense and filled with amazing art and choreography, as well as some important story, and is even the first time Takamura speaks.

1

Nagumo Versus Gaku

Nagumo and Gaku are some of the best characters in the manga, and getting to see them fight was a dream come true. Honestly, whether this fight or the previous fight with Takamura is number one is up to personal preference, as both are exceptional.

Nagumo and Gaku are both very charismatic and fun to watch, so seeing them confront each other leads to one of the most entertaining battles in the manga. Gaku is able to handle one of the strongest order members, Nagumo shows off his arsenal and how he handles someone like Gaku, all with amazing fight choreography and quips from both characters. If you like Sakamoto Days, chances are you love at least one of these characters, if not both, and seeing them duke it out is a treat.
