Best Early Game Weapons In Mario & Luigi: Brothership

Mario and Luigi have two different types of weapons they can equip in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. First, the pair can only jump on enemies with a nice pair of boots. Second, they will unlock hammers that they can use to smash enemies into pieces with or rocks while exploring the various islands that they will sail to.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership isn’t a typical turn-based RPG, so don’t go into battle without these mustachioed tips in mind.

Stats are always good to remember in an RPG especially attack power if players want to rock through battles quickly. However, a better strategy in Mario & Luigi: Brothership would be to find and equip hammers and boots with excellent bonuses. So, here are some early examples.

7 Slowdown Boots

Jump Power 19

  • Location: Twistee Island
  • Bonus Effect: Lowers An Enemy’s Defense By 30%

The Slowdown Boots will lower an enemy’s Defense by 30% when hit. This will always be an automatic effect, making it great for boss battles. Players can purchase this pair of Boots from a vendor on Twistee Island. This vendor will also have the Soft Hammer weapon which will do exactly the same thing. It’s a good one-two punch wherein one brother can lower defense with a good stomp while the other can smash a hammer in their face to keep this debuff going on a roll.

6 Knockout Hammer

  • Location: Desolatt Island
  • Bonus Effect: 20% Power Increase When Enemy Defeated

The Knockout Hammer can be obtained by fighting the Drillby enemy on Desolatt Island. This is a little mole-like creature with a drill for a nose. If players are lucky, they can get this hammer and some accessories can help with Mario & Luigi: Brothership’s drop rate to make this process easier.

After completing the first island in Mario & Luigi: Brothership, you’ll have a choice on which Willma’s kids you save first.

The Knockout Hammer is good for two reasons. First, the attack power for the hammer will increase by 20% when an enemy is slain and there is also a Defense buff attached. Not many weapons in RPGs boost Defense, making it a rare commodity.

5 Gobblick Boots

Jump Power 26/Stache 2

Gobblick Boots weapon in Mario & Luigi Brothership

  • Location: Great Lighthouse Island (1st)
  • Bonus Effect: Heal 5% HP Based On Damage Dealt

The Gobblick Boots can be acquired after defeating one of the game’s trickier bosses, Gobblick. Gobblick is a giant plant creature that would look right at home in a Plants vs Zombies game. The Gobblick Boots are another rare specimen as they will boost a stat beyond attack power via Stache points which translate into Mario & Luigi: Brothership’s Luck stat. Besides that, the main hook of the Gobblick Boots is that they can restore some HP based on the amount of damage inflicted. It’s like having a weapon with vampirism and that’s a funny way to look at it.

4 Accel Boots

Jump Power 26/Speed 2

  • Location: Minmin Islet
  • Bonus Effect: 30% Speed Burst When Enemy Defeated

The Accel Boots are part of a side quest in Mario & Luigi: Brothership called Zokket’s Schemes. All players have to do is head to Minmin Islet wherein they will encounter the Extension Corps, one of the main enemy groups in the game. After an exchange of dialogue, players can grab this snazzy pair of boots which will boost Speed in two ways. First, it will raise the Speed stat once equipped, and then Speed will also be raised by 30% during battle when enemies are defeated. The faster these two plumbers are, the more turns they will gain.

3 Antiair Boots

Jump Power 26/-2 Speed

  • Location: Merrygo Island
  • Bonus Effect: 30% Damage Vs Flying Enemies

The Antiair Boots can be bought from a vendor on Merrygo Island. This weapon has an even bigger rarity in that it will lower a stat once equipped: Speed. That said, it does have a decent attack power and it’s made specifically to tackle flying enemies. This vendor also sells a hammer called the Blunt Hammer which is more effective against spiked enemies. Like the strategy involving the Slowdown Boots and the Soft Hammer, players can take advantage of any situation and have each brother choose a side to dominate.

2 Bros. Hammer

Hammer Power 36

  • Location: Merrygo Island
  • Bonus Effect: Restore BP When Enemies Are Defeated

The Bros. Hammer can also be acquired on Merrygo Island but it is tied to a side quest called Little Lost Toad. Once requested, players need to find a lost Toad in a maze and then fight a bunch of Snaptors. This is a good time to equip the Antiair Boots.

The Biggest Changes In Mario & Luigi: Brothership

It’s been almost a decade since the last new game, so it’s quite obvious that a lot has changed in Mario & Luigi in the newest Brothership game.

Once that simple battle is over, these Toads will reward players with the Bros. Hammer. This little beauty will restore BP when enemies are defeated and BP is like the magic meter in other RPGs wherein the two plumbers can perform combo attacks for high damage.

1 Sharpcask Hammer

Hammer Power 48/Defense 4

  • Location: Great Lighthouse Island (2nd)
  • Bonus Effect: 20% Defense Boost When Enemy Defeated

The Sharpcask Hammer is also tied to a boss, which is even harder than Gobblick. Sharpcask is a robotic barrel residing in the second Great Lighthouse Island. Once it is defeated, Sharpcask will leave behind the Sharpcask Hammer which has the best early attack power for a hammer in the game and it boosts Defense in two ways. The first is via equipping the item itself and the second way is through slaying enemies in battle. A strong defense in an RPG like Mario & Luigi is just as important as a strong offense and the Sharpcask Hammer is proof of that.
