Valve Reveals Limited Edition White Steam Deck OLED

Valve has revealed a new limited edition white variant of the Steam Deck OLED. The handheld console will cost $679, which is $30 more than the standard model and has all the same specifications. It will be available on November 18, 3PM PST, in all regions that the Steam Deck is currently available, but will have only a limited number.

The Steam Deck Needs To Be Better

Valve is all about quality. Except for aligning the Steam Deck with my pain points.

So, if you want a Stem Deck that’s a different colour from everyone else’s, you better stay ready at the storefront. In a news post, Valve noted that it will not be refreshing the stock of this white edition, and that “Once we are sold out, we will be sold out.” So, if white is your aesthetic, you better make sure you’re at the ready on launch day.

Same Same But Different

“Last year, we released a smoky translucent limited edition Steam Deck OLED as an experiment to find out if there was interest in alternative colourways (there was!). This is our second experiment along those lines,” Valve explained (thanks, Eurogamer).

“The difference this time (aside from the colour!) is that we’re able to ship the Limited Edition White to all regions where Steam Deck already ships,” continued the statement. “We’re curious to see what the response is, and will use what we learn to inform future decisions about any potential new colour variants down the line.”

The limited edition white version of the Steam Deck OLED looks pretty neat. The grey face buttons and thumbsticks, along with the red power button, give it a clean and classic look, like a retro console. However, you better make sure you regularly clean it if you’re not using a cover, because those white consoles and controllers tend to attract a lot of dirt and grime.

Valve has stated that it will not be launching a new version of the Steam Deck every year. The company has put in a lot of time and money into the Steam Deck OLED, so it will not be immediately working on a successor. Perhaps these limited editions are Valve’s way of refreshing the stock and interest in the console occasionally.

The Steam Deck OLED is an upgrade version of the regular handheld version of the console from Valve. Not only does it boast an improved screen, but it also has a longer battery life, runs faster, and is even a little lighter. There are 512GB and 1TB models of the Steam Deck OLED available.
