Professions are essential in Brighter Shores. They dictate what you do in the world, as well as what you can craft. Each map in the game has its own set of unique professions that you can level up; for example, in Hopeport, you can level the Guard, Chef, Fisher, Forager, or Alchemist professions.

Each profession in the game has a whopping 500 levels, so it’s only natural that you’ll prioritize some over others. In this list, we’ll take a look at the best professions that you should level up while playing Brighter Shores. If you play long enough, you’ll eventually be able to level them all.
Brighter Shores is currently in Early Access on Steam and as such, the content is subject to change. We will update these articles as required.

Foraging
First up, we have the Forager profession. This profession is tied to Hopeport, and is essential to leveling up several other professions in the area. For example, you’ll forage ingredients to make potions (Alchemist profession), forage ingredients to make dishes (Chef profession), and forage for bait critters (Fishing profession).
As you can see, foraging is pretty essential to other professions in the game. The only thing that may be a downside for the profession is that you will need to buy tools. There are only three tool types, but as the profession levels up, you’ll need to purchase the upgraded versions.
Still, this means that the tools can be enchanted, which earns you even more experience in the long run. If you are set on leveling up this profession, be sure to head to the Enchantress and enchant your equipment.

Chef
Next, we have the Chef profession. This is another profession tied to Hopeport, but it’s an absolutely fantastic way to make money. Once you reach level nine in the Chef profession, you’ll be able to complete bounties. These are essentially quests that require you to bring certain dishes to NPCs around town.

After completing a bounty, you’ll earn some money and XP. Additionally, you’ll gain XP for any cooking that you do in order to prepare the meals needed. As such, completing bounties and leveling the Chef profession is a great way to make money in Brighter Shores.
3
Detective
The Detective profession takes us all to the Crenopolis, which is the fourth area of the game. If you haven’t purchased the subscription for Brighter Shores, you won’t be able to visit this area. If you do have the subscription, head to the Crenopolis and become a detective!
This profession lets you complete unique actions like investigations, raids on Crime Dens, spotting thieves at merchant stalls, and even simple tasks like filing evidence. Many of these tasks will earn you a hefty amount of money. At this point in the game, things will cost quite a lot, so more money is always welcome.

Weapon-Producing Professions
In the Mine of Mantuban (this is the third area, only accessible with the subscription), you can find three professions; Bonewright, Stonemason, and Blacksmith. These three professions will make weapons and shields for each of the three classes in the game.

Any Combat Profession
Lastly, we have any profession related to combat. Fighting enemies is essential in Brighter Shores. By doing so, you can progress through previously-blocked areas, as well as obtain new equipment for you to wear.
Each map has its own combat-related profession, which you can find listed below.
Map |
Combat Profession |
---|---|
Hopeport |
Guard |
Hopeforest |
Scout |
Mine of Mantuban |
Minefighter |
Crenopolis |
Watchperson |
Stonemaw Hill is currently not in the game, but the associated combat profession (Shieldbearer) will become available once it launches).
By engaging in combat, you’ll also gain some money. This means that one battle has a chance to earn you XP, money, and a weapon (or armor) drop. On top of this, some areas are filled with aggressive enemies that attack on sight. If you aren’t leveled high enough, you may not be able to defeat the enemies and pass by.
With a high enough combat profession though, you can easily defeat the enemies and continue onward to the next area.
