Rivals of Aether 2 continue the epic venture set in the world of the Aether universe. As a sequel that plays similarly to the first installment, you get to select several fearsome characters to engage in fighting mechanics similar to Super Smash Bros.
Several new characters and returning champions make their way to the roster. Aside from several newly added features, many of the old cast and crew obtained additional abilities and skills. Because Rivals of Aether 2 is planned to be a direct sequel, many of these characters also have a continuous story arc to follow.

Orcane
The Puddle Jumper
A cunning thief that resides in Water Town, Orcane is the physical manifestation of the joy of the Goddess Marenas. A playful little Orca dog hybrid, Orcane is often seen as the guest character in other games that crossover with the Aether series.
Water is Orcane’s chief element, and in battle, he can transform parts of himself to navigate in water and shoot water projectiles that stunlock and block enemy recovery for follow-up attacks. He’s a sleek and agile character to control and is great for beginners of the series to start with.

Maypul
The Sylvan Watcher
Guardian of the Aetherian Forest, Maypul takes on her foes with a combination of her agile strikes and midair abilities, along with her carnivorous plant companion, Lily. Her weapons are two razor leaves that help her cling to stage edges before she falls and strikes enemies with swift combos.
Maypul is the fastest close-quarters fighter and is formidable in a skilled player’s control with her moveset, but she has low recovery when smacked around by physically stronger foes. To compensate for this exploitable flaw, she can stun combo and utilize seed drops to plant Lily right where she can ensnare

Ranno
The Poisonous Pacifist
Ranno was formerly a DLC character added to the original Rivals of Aether and is now one of the premiere characters to return for Rivals 2. He is a bare-fisted warrior monk of undetermined age who has trained his pacifistic fighting style to protect his home.

Aside from his martial arts prowess, Ranno also utilizes poison darts for additional damage effects. He is also guarded by a ring of green bubbles that act as both ranged attacks and an extension to other moves. Ranno can also use his tongue to swallow enemies whole and spit them out in a green bubble that leaves them immobile for battle.

Fleet
Archer of Justice
A skilled archer, Fleet is the protagonist of the spin-off Dungeons of Aether. This will be her major debut in the main series, and she comes in blazing arrows. Her arrow attacks and skills make her a formidably versatile character to play around with in fights.
She can also use her bow as a quick melee weapon and glides around in her jumps to better position her strikes to knock enemies out of recovery and into the fall zone.
6
Wrastor
The Wind’s Fury
Wrastor is an incredibly skilled pilot of the Air Armada. His story started during a scouting mission with his close friend Bradshaw when they were pulled into the intrigue of the story. His playstyle and way of facing enemies are very reminiscent of Smash characters like Kirby and Pit.
Wrastor, compared to other characters, is a fairly fragile glass cannon. He can hit fast and hard, but one hard blow from a tough enough enemy can send him flying involuntarily. To compensate, he could utilize gusts of wind that sweep across the floors of the arena and sweep enemies off their feet for openings.
5
Kragg
The Earth’s Bastion
A member of the Wallbuilders, Kragg is a fearsome juggernaut who can swing some big punches. He is modeled after stag beetles and is one of the more robust characters to play. He can take a lot of hits and is difficult to knock away without striking some good combos.

Along with laying down some fierce blows and throws, Kragg can also pull square-shaped stones from the ground and use them for a wide range of attacks, from throwing the stones to using them in pulverizing hits. These add to Kragg’s viscous moveset.
4
Clairen
The Flame’s Salvation
Clairen was a child born from a devastated future who traveled back in time to prevent the doom she experienced. Her mission was to find and safeguard the heroes Forsborn and Zetterburn, who disappeared in her time, and to find a way to destroy Loxodont before his power grew too great.
Clairen mainly uses her plasma sword for combos and major attacks, but she also uses a force field that envelops her and the surrounding area. This is the infamous “No-Fun Zone,” where any opponents fighting Clairen lose their distinct abilities as long as they’re in there.
3
Forsburn
The Exiled Flame
The secondary hero/protagonist of the Aether series, Forsburn, is the older brother of Zetterburn and a former spy of their kingdom until the king’s death. After being framed for his father’s death, Forsburn was forced to flee and establish a safe haven for himself in the local Smoke Clan.
Trained in the art of assassination and espionage, Forsburn slashes through enemies with a sleek blade. He also has the ability to hide himself in a deep shroud of smoke and summon smoke clones for additional attacks and combo opportunities.
2
Loxodont
The Molten Emperor
Loxodont, the main villainous conqueror of the Aether and an invincible tyrant, was the overarching villain whose presence was mentioned in previous installments of the Aether series. He premiers as a playable character in Rivals of Aether 2, which takes place before his full ascent to power.
He uses a giant axe for most attacks and uses his elephant trunk for grapples and long-range attacks. He is a juggernaut, one of the heavier characters to play, and can handle just as much as he can deliver in a fight. Adding to his imposing figure, he can also make himself molten for additional protection and power.
1
Zetterburn
The Fire’s Roar
Son of Emperor Redburn and the greatest of Fireland, Zetterburn is the defacto main hero and protagonist of the Rivals of Aether storyline. As such, he’s often featured in covers and art as one of the lead characters in the Aether series.
Zetterburn is a great character to start out your understanding of the fighting styles brought in Rivals of Aether 2, having no particular strengths or weaknesses. He has strong hits, formidable special attacks with fire elemental damage, and a balanced knockback with recovery. If you’re starting out fresh in the Rivals of Aether, this is the right character to start with.
