How to build the best team in JJK: Phantom Parade
Phantom Parade is a turn-based RPG, where battles unfold in turns between your team and the enemy. You’ll choose the actions for each character during your turn, followed by the enemies carrying out their moves until one side is defeated. Let’s explore the key gameplay mechanics and strategies for building a well-rounded team to handle any challenge.
Team Building
Before starting a stage in Phantom Parade, you’ll need to choose which characters to bring into battle, as well as the Recollection Bits they’ll equip. Here’s how your team setup works:
- 4 Main Units: Your primary team members, will start the battle.
- 1 Sub Unit: This character replaces any Main Unit that gets defeated during the battle.
- 1 Support Unit: An optional extra unit you can select from other players’ characters. Players can set which unit to share as Support and choose the Recollection Bit for it. Support Units are available three times per day.
At the top of the screen, you’ll see your team’s Battle Power as an estimate of your team’s strength. Compare this to the Recommended Battle Power at the bottom to gauge if your team is strong enough.
However, even if your Battle Power is lower, it’s still possible to clear higher-level stages with the right strategy. Stages may also recommend specific Elements based on enemy weaknesses or resistances. For example, if a stage suggests red-element units, they’ll likely be more effective than green-element ones.
Character Selection
It’s usually best to include at least two support units to boost your team’s overall damage. For example, Nanami and Yaga can add significant Damage Buffs, allowing attackers like Nobara and Gojo to hit harder.
In some cases, bringing three support units and only one main damage dealer can be beneficial. This setup focuses on maximizing buffs to your damage dealer (or debuffs on enemies) so that your damage dealer can unleash a powerful hit, ideally with their Ultimate Skill.
Position support units in the front and damage dealers in the back. While support skills typically act first, this setup is helpful if support units need to attack to apply status effects or debuffs on the enemy.
Gameplay mechanics
In Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade, battles are turn-based and packed with unique mechanics you can master. From skill selection to Ultimate Skills and cooperative moves, understanding these mechanics will help you dominate each stage. Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll need to know for effective combat.
Choosing Actions
When a battle begins, you’ll select which Skills each character will use on their turn. The screen also shows the Wave and Turn count to track how many enemy waves you’ve fought and turns taken so far. You’ll see enemy Weaknesses and Resistances, active Buffs/Debuffs, and their Ultimate Skill Count (indicated by circles and a Cursed Energy symbol), which increases each time they act.
Auto Battle and Speed Modes
There are options for Auto Battle and 2x Speed. Auto Battle is helpful for easy stages but isn’t ideal for harder ones, as the AI’s choices may not maximize damage. By holding down on a character or enemy, you can check their Buffs, Debuffs, and Ultimate Skill Gauge to plan your moves carefully.
Activating Recollection Bits
Recollection Bits are equipped items with Skills that trigger when specific conditions are met. You can activate a character’s Recollection Bit Skill by pressing the designated button while choosing their action. After use, the Skill goes on cooldown, with different cooldown times for each Bit.
Break Mechanic
Under the enemy’s HP bar is a Break Bar. Attacking the enemy lowers this bar, especially with Skills that target their weaknesses. Fully depleting the Break Bar puts the enemy in Break Status for two turns, where they’re unable to act, and your attacks deal more damage. Certain characters also gain buffs when the enemy is in Break Status.
Critical Hits and Black Flashes
The game includes Critical Hits and Black Flashes as special hits. Critical Hits deal 1.5x damage, sometimes giving character buffs. Black Flashes do the same but also fill the Ultimate Gauge more than regular hits. Each character and Skill has unique chances of landing a Critical Hit or Black Flash, and some Skills can’t trigger a Black Flash.
Cooperative Ultimates
When two characters’ Ultimate Skill Gauges are full, you can activate them together to trigger a Cooperative Ultimate. This special move has a combined animation where both characters attack together, often with unique voice lines. Cooperative Ultimates deal extra damage and apply buffs depending on the pairing.
Examples of Team Composition Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade
In Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade, building the right team is key to handling each game mode. Whether it’s the main story, challenging battle instances, or auto battles, each team composition offers unique strengths. Here’s a guide to crafting lineups with powerful attackers, reliable buffers, and essential debuffers for every situation.
Main Story Team Comp
In the main story or campaign mode, you’ll start with some easier stages, but as you progress, the chapters become tougher. To tackle these high-level challenges, try this powerful lineup. Masamichi Yaga is an essential buffer, providing strong buffs to allies while debuffing enemies.
Nanami Kento boosts your team’s damage output, making it easier to break down tougher enemies. Yuuta Okkotsu serves as a skilled magic attacker, dealing massive damage with his self-buffing abilities. Lastly, Fushiguro Jinji delivers high critical damage with powerful physical attacks, rounding out a balanced and effective team for the campaign.
Flexible Team Comp
For any battle instance, this all-rounder team setup works well. Masamichi Yaga boosts physical abilities across the formation, making your other units stronger. Yoshinobu Rakuganji supports with debuffs that weaken enemies while dealing solid attack damage.
Kaito Yuki supports cursed energy recovery and increases spell power for all allies, which balances out the team’s power despite Yuki’s lower attack ability. Finally, Gojo Satoru brings powerful buffs and damage-dealing skills, as well as great invincibility in auto-battle mode, making him crucial for tougher instances.
Auto Battle Team Comp
In auto battles, use a setup that focuses on both area damage and strong debuffs. Zen’in Mai leads with powerful debuffs to lower enemy attack power, while Yoshinobu Rakuganji attacks all enemies with added debuffs.
Masamichi Yaga enhances the team’s buffs and adds more debuffs to weaken enemies. Finally, Fushiguro Jinji steps in as a reliable physical attacker with a high critical damage multiplier, ensuring consistent damage to close out fights effectively.
Final Thoughts
To build a strong team in Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade, balance is a key factor. Each character shines in different ways with some that deal big damage, others boosting allies, and some weakening enemies. Mixing attackers with buffers and debuffers like Masamichi Yaga and Zen’in Mai will make your team ready for anything. With smart planning, you’ll be able to handle harder stages and truly enjoy the game’s combat with this Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade Team Composition Guide.
