Marvel is still trying to make sure hope for the long-awaited Blade movie is as undead as the vampires its brutal hero battles. Weeks after the Blade reboot was pushed back from its November 7, 2025 release date, Kevin Feige wants Marvel fans to know Blade (the character) will be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That doesn’t mean Blade (the movie) will.

Speaking to Brazilian entertainment website Omelete, Feige asserts Marvel is still committed to bringing Mahershala Ali’s version of Blade to the big screen, and will be as transparent as possible with fans about any and all updates.

“We love the character, we love Mahershala’s version of him. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still trying to figure out how it fits into our schedule, we let the public know. You’re up to date on what’s going on.”

However, he words his endorsement of the film’s continued development in a curious manner with the remark, “I can tell you that the character will be coming to the MCU.” Not to read too deeply into semantics, but the character being in the MCU isn’t the same as a standalone movie coming to the MCU. Given the fact Blade no longer has a release date five years after being announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, has lost two directors, and has had three different separate attempts at developing a script, hope may be misplaced if given to Marvel.

Marvel already tried satiating Blade-thirsty fans with Wesley Snipes reprising his landmark role in a surprise appearance in Deadpool vs Wolverine. The near-universal praise for his inclusion could inspire Disney to starve us of a standalone film while feeding us surprising cameos of Ali’s Blade in upcoming films like Avengers: Doomsday.

Let’s hope this isn’t the case. In Feige we trust.
