The ’90s was a special and unique time for horror, and one popular story is getting a new take. Variety reported that Sony is making a remake of Idle Hands. Jason Reitman is producing the movie, and Billy Bryk and Finn Wolfhard are writing it.
According to Variety, Reitman said:
“Finn and Billy crushed their directorial debut and have a completely original take on ‘Idle Hands’ that captures a disaffected generation. We are excited to support them as they bring their unique take to the screen and summon the demons.”

Stranger Things Season 5 BTS Photos Leave Fans Curious About Story Ahead
Behind-the-scenes photos from Stranger Things Season 5 have stirred fan excitement, offering glimpses of what’s to come in the final chapter.
In even bigger news that Stranger Things and horror fans alike will want to hear, it’s possible that Bryk and Wolfhard will direct the Idle Hands remake. The pair are coming off the success of their horror movie Hell of a Summer, which will be released by NEON in 2025. The cast of the modern slasher movie includes D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Abby Quinn, and Fred Hechinger. The movie is about counselors at a place called Camp Pineway who are targeted by a serial killer.
Wolfhard is an impressive young voice and talent in Hollywood. Besides showing his talent for vulnerable characters such as Mike Wheeler on Stranger Things, Wolfhard amazed the Duffer Brothers by guessing their spin-off idea that they haven’t shared publicly. It’s exciting to see him delve deeper into the horror genre with a remake of Idle Hands. Since this is his second horror film, he appears to be drawn to this particular genre. It’s also great that Reitman is producing. The filmmaker directed hit movies such as Up In The Air, Young Adult, and Up In The Air. He also directed the 2021 movie Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which stars Wolfhard.
The original movie comes from the statement “idle hands are the Devil’s play-things” and was released in 1999. Devon Sawa, who also appeared in the first Final Destination movie along with the Chucky TV series, played the main character, Anton, whose hand becomes possessed. It’s unclear just how closely the Idle Hands remake will follow the original movie. If it was to close, that would be boring, so hopefully some changes will be made. However, it’s a great idea to bring this story into the current time as the movie has important coming-of-age, family, and friendship themes that are still relevant. While Idle Hands feels very ’90s since it has a cheesy tone, Wolfhard and Bryk will no doubt make it feel like the 2020s. It will be fun to see what they do with this compelling and memorable story, and fans of the horror genre and Stranger Things are no doubt intrigued.
