Key Takeaways
- Final Fantasy 14’s Dawntrail expansion had some pretty questionable voice acting in the final trial, stemming most from Wuk Lamat.
- Square Enix has used the drop of Patch 7.1 to completely redub the scene, along with some of the active battle dialogue.
- The end result is much improved on the original, and fans are praising Wuk Lamat voice actor Sena Bryer for her new performance.
Final Fantasy 14’s Dawntrail expansion had plenty of rough points and drew plenty of criticism from fans, who didn’t think it was quite up to par with the expansions prior to its release. A lot of that was inevitable, as the slower pace meant things would be less action-packed and exciting, but some questionable voice acting didn’t really make things any better.
We’re about to talk about the ending of Dawntrail, so if you’re still not there and want to avoid spoilers, now’s your time to duck out.
One such example was during the final trial in Dawntrail, which saw our Warriors of Light going up against a giant, uncontrollable robot piloted by Queen Sphene. After she proved too much for our characters alone, Wuk Lamat bursts onto the scene with her axe in hand, though her shouts of “Sphene, listen to me!” didn’t sound as though they fit the moment, leading to plenty of memes about the voice line ever since the expansion’s release.
Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.1 Has Redubbed Wuk Lamat In Dawntrail’s Interphos Trial
However, Square Enix decided to use the drop of Final Fantasy 14’s first post-Dawntrail patch as an opportunity to fix that particular issue, as the scene which has been drawing so much ridicule has now been redubbed. Twitter user Hyskari was one of the first to share the new redubbed scene on social media, along with the active battle dialogue that also appears to have been redubbed.

There’s a lot of pressure for Patch 7.1 to deliver after Dawntrail’s mixed reception.
You can still find videos of the original voice lines on YouTube, and as you can hear, the redubbed scene sounds a lot more strained and fitting to a scene that sees Wuk Lamat literally flying through the air in an attempt to save her friend. It’s such a massive improvement on the original scene, and fans are rightly giving voice actor Sena Bryer the credit that she deserves for the new lines.
This re-recording is just one of the smaller improvements made to Final Fantasy 14 with Patch 1.7 too, as a bunch of little tweaks and changes were detailed in the patch notes earlier today. For example, it was revealed that the minion drop chances for several Endwalker dungeons have been increased, meaning it’s now easier to get the Starbird from the Dead Ends. We also got some new hairstyles, but the less said about those, the better.
Square Enix’s popular MMO, Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, has players step into the role of the Warrior of Light in the world of Eorzea. There, they find themselves testing their mettle against Primals, the Garlean Empire, the Ascians, and plenty of other threats.
This award-winning MMO now has multiple expansions to its name, with the most recent Endwalker expansion bringing the Hydaelyn/Zodiark arc to a close. Director and producer Yoshi-P has promised lots of plans for future content and the game has regular updates to keep players occupied.
