It’s felt like an oddly-quiet time for Destiny 2 recently. Well, aside from that whole perk weighting saga. But in terms of the game’s story and seasonal content, Bungie’s decision to dump everything Revenant Act 1 had to offer at the very start has resulted in a fairly long wait for more. However, today’s developer livestream has put that wait to an end. Previewing what’s to come in Act 2 next week, Bungie has lifted the lid on a new mode, artifact, weapons, and more, but for me there is one thing that stole the show – dragon armor.
From wizards to mechs, themed armor sets have long let Destiny 2 players embody different fantasies and styles. However, when this year’s edition of the festive The Dawning event rolls around, it will bring with it one of the most mesmerizing armor sets I’ve ever laid eyes upon. The space game is hardly lacking in aesthetically-pleasing armor, but this is right up there as an all-timer.
“The wonderful theme for our armor is going to be a celestial space dragon,” global community lead Dylan Gafner says during the Revenant Act 2 stream. That quote alone should be enough to get you invested – find me someone who doesn’t wanna be a celestial space dragon. But when you actually set eyes upon it… My god, it’s beautiful.
With helmets representing roaring dragons to wings emblazoned with a dynamic pattern of the cosmos, it’s something to behold. The news keeps getting better, as Gafner also reveals that “the team did a bunch of really good work on shader application” with this armor set, and the livestream certainly shows that to be the case. You can watch the devs play around with shaders for the Warlock version of the set at the time-stamped video below.
The good news keeps coming as well, because the Destiny 2 dragon armor will be available for either Silver, the game’s paid premium currency, or Bright Dust, which is earnable in-game.
The Dawning returns to Destiny 2 on Tuesday, December 10 roughly midway through Revenant Act 2. This is also when the space dragon armor set will be added to the game.
However, The Dawning and all of its festive antics is just a small part of Act 2. There is a new activity that veteran Destiny fans will love as it is a reimagining of the Prison of Elders activity. Continuing on Destiny 2’s streak of creating roguelike-style modes, Tomb of Elders will put you through a series of unpredictable gauntlets filled with hordes of enemies, modifiers, and sub-objectives to complete. There will of course be some new weapons, and a fresh artifact full of loadout-enhancing mods to pick from. Revenant Act 2 kicks off in Destiny 2 on Tuesday, November 19.
