Rainbow Six Mobile is a strategy-heavy FPS game, a type which is rare on mobile devices. The variety of operators available can lead to so many different tactics and plays. There are several ways to approach each round in R6M, regardless, of attacking and defending. Whilst there is a plethora of operators to choose from, they can be categorised by the roles they play as a whole in the team. In this article, we analyse the different defensive roles of Rainbow Six Mobile in detail and break down more about the different roles of defenders in-game. Players will also discuss the strategies to use when playing them.
Defenders can win rounds by either eliminating all attackers or by running down the time on the clock. The roles of defensive operators range from protecting the objective site to blocking entry points and more. Usually, players can specialise in a couple of these roles. But, it is useful to know about each one individually as well.
Rainbow Six Mobile: Different roles of Defenders
1. Anchor
Playstyle
Anchors sit close to the objective site, limiting the distance they move away from the objective. The main task for anchors is to hold angles on vulnerable areas around the objective site. They can also support teammates or secure better positions to counter incoming attackers by making quick movements around the objective site. All operators can somewhat play as the anchor, however, dedicated anchors have gadgets which make this job easier.
Advantages
- They are ultimately the last line of defence and are best prepared to clutch games, when all hope is lost.
- They allow teammates more freedom to roam.
- It can cover key entry points, which would otherwise be vulnerable.
Operators to use
- Rook: It has 3 armour points and can place down an Armour pack for himself and his teammates, which provides an additional health buff when used. Rook can also place additional cover with his secondary gadget, the deployable shield.
2. Roamer
Playstyle
Roamers have the freedom to move away from the objective site, covering other areas of the map. They must do their best to remain undetected, whilst also causing problems for attackers by using flanks and gadgets to catch attackers off-guard. All operators can somewhat play as the roamer, however, dedicated roamers have unique gadgets and abilities which help here.
Advantages
- They can pick early kills, reducing the size of the attacking team early on
- They can divert attackers’ attention, wasting their time
- They could counter from behind, once the attackers approach the objective site
Operators to use
- Caveira: She is a dedicated roamer with the ability to move in almost silence, allowing her to sneak up on enemies. Her powerful shotgun and silenced pistol excel at close to medium range. Caveira also has a second ability to interrogate downed enemies, revealing the exact location of all other attacking operators, giving a crucial advantage to teammates.
3. Trapper
Playstyle
Trappers are can place unique traps in strategic positions around the map. If placed correctly, attackers may unknowingly walk into them to set them off, dealing them damage or other buffs.
Advantages
- Trappers deal damage/other buffs to the attackers.
- There may be an explosion or indication to the operator when the trap is set off, which can roughly give away the position of the attackers.
- Towards later stages of the round, attackers will likely be focusing on the objective, which means that they are more vulnerable to traps. This could give the remaining defenders’ a big advantage.
Operators to use
- Kapkan: He carries 5 Entry Denial Devices (EEDs). These are tripwire-triggered explosives which can be mounted on doorframes and windows. If positioned correctly, EEDs can be quite difficult to spot for attackers and will deal decent damage if triggered. EEDs can be placed at varying heights too, with the lowest being at foot level and the highest being at about chest level.
4. Anti-Breacher
Playstyle
Anti-breachers have unique tools which prevent attackers from using breaching gadgets. Attackers can still breach reinforced walls with the right tools, however, some anti-breachers can take this up a level, by making even reinforced walls unbreachable.
Advantages
- The defenders further reinforce walls, protecting the objective site.
- The defenders can force attackers to take alternative routes into the objective site.
Operators to use
- Bandit: He carries 4 shock charges which can charge reinforced walls with electricity. Attackers will be dealt damage if they touch these walls, and any hard breaching gadget is destroyed if it is placed on here. This means charged reinforced walls can not be breached until the battery itself is destroyed. Additionally, Bandit’s charges can also be placed near the barbed wire and deployable shields.
- Mute: Mute’s Jammer devices don’t just disable enemy drones, but also disable any remotely activated gadgets within its radius. This includes things like breach charges, Thermite’s Exothermic Charges and Hibana’s X-Kairos Launcher pellets. Bear in mind that these remotely activated gadgets are not destroyed by the Jammer, instead, they are inactive and can be used once the Jammer is destroyed.
5. Gadget Denial
Playstyle
These defenders have gadgets used to disarm the attackers’ offensive gadgets. These gadgets include frag/smoke/stun grenades, Ying’s Candelas and Thatcher’s EMPs and other similar tools.
Advantages
- He can make certain operators ineffective by disarming their primary gadgets
- He can help protect anchors from projectiles at the objective site
- Indication of when projectiles are disarmed by gadget denial can roughly give away the attacker’s presence.
Operators to use
- Jager: He can place down 3 Magpie Defence Systems which will destroy enemy projectiles right before they detonate. To cover as much of the objective site as possible, players must place these MDSs in spaced and concealed locations.
6. Anti-Intel
Playstyle
These operators have gadgets which disrupt any intel-gathering gadgets which the attackers have, mainly drones, but, it is also applicable to other operator gadgets.
Advantages
- Players should keep the location of teammates safe from attackers
- It should discourage attackers from using drones which would otherwise be powerful tools for gathering intel around the objective site
Operators to use
- Mute: Mute’s 4 Jammer devices are one of the best ways of disabling access to drones. Place these down near vents and doorways to guard against droning. Drones that enter the Jammer’s radius are rendered unusable as long as the Jammer is active.
- Bandit: Although not his main priority, Bandit can also combat against drones. When his Shock Charges are combined with barbed wire, a deployable shield or a reinforced wall, any drone that comes into contact with the object will immediately be destroyed.
7. Intel
Playstyle
Intel gatherers have unique gadgets which can provide information on the whereabouts of attackers. The security cameras only cover parts of the map, so these gadgets can expand on this, or even provide alternative ways of gathering intel.
Advantages
- They can help roamers coordinate flanks.
- They can help anchors anticipate attacks, giving them the initial advantage.
Operators to use
- Valkyrie: They can place 3 Black Eye cameras anywhere on the map, which can provide a full round view from where they are. All defenders have access to these additional feeds for as long as the Black Eye is active. Strategically positioning these cameras can help gather intel on multiple rooms and areas which would otherwise be blind spots for existing cameras.
- Caveira: He can also contribute to gathering intel for teammates in addition to her dedicated roaming role. Her interrogation skill can be activated on downed enemies, and this will reveal the exact location of all other remaining attackers for a short period. Keep in mind that Caveira is vulnerable whilst interrogating, so there is some risk involved in addition to the high reward.
8. Entry Denial
Playstyle
These defensive operators use their gadgets to guard vulnerable entry points against attackers. The ways in which they do this range between operators, but the idea is to deter attackers, forcing them to retreat and take a different route.
Advantages
- He can waste attackers’ time.
- Some operator gadgets may also deal damage and other buffs.
Operators to use
- Smoke: Smoke’s 3 Remote Gas Grenades can be thrown at a common entry point where attackers are present. When detonated, the grenade disperses a cloud of toxic gas which hangs in a fairly large radius for 30 seconds. Any attackers in this cloud will be dealt damage, which forces them backwards. The 30-second duration takes a massive hit on the time on the clock as well.
