Fourteen Years Later And Call Of Duty Fans Are Still Obsessed With Nuketown
As the iconic map returns to Black Ops 6, let us celebrate its history.
There’s little room for anything else to be added, so imagine the surprise when one player somehow spawned a giant jumbo jet in the middle of the map mid-battle.
Nuketown’s Mysterious Spawning Plane
In a short video posted to Reddit, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 player Anomli is deep into a game in the popular Domination mode on Nuketown.
Anomli approaches the middle of the map and pulls out a grenade to throw, but as the explosive is thrown, a giant plane spawns in its path. Many of the comments were quick to point out that it was like something out of Pokemon, except instead of a creature, it was a plane, and instead of a PokeBall, it was a grenade.
As the plane appears, you can see one of Anomli’s team mates looking on in confusion, further adding to the comedy gold of the clip.
While the situation baffled many on Reddit, user TabbedScamper shared a theory as to why this happened: “In order for things to render properly in 3D space, it has to be as close to 0,0,0 (X,Y,Z) as possible. You can see this as an example in the Minecraft far lands. I would assume the plane that has to be called at any point anyone earns it is stored somewhere on the map at all times just set to null (no) visibility. So in turn i think the center point of the plane is at 0,0,0 of the map. I also saw a video somewhere where, in the video editor, all the Nuketown maps are visible outside of this map. Too much for the game to call null at once caused this to go ‘not visible’ instantly.
However it happened, it’s definitely one moment players in that match will never forget.
Forced to go rogue. Hunted from within. This is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.
The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.
In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
