Red Dead Redemption offers you a vast and immersive world full of gameplay opportunities, from stranger missions and survival challenges to treasure hunts and master hunter challenges. The master hunter challenges, in particular, require you to track down and hunt several wild creatures that roam diverse biomes of Red Dead Redemption.
As you progress to master hunter challenge rank 6, the game tasks you with hunting and skinning five raccoons, foxes, and skunks. However, when you set out to scout for these critters, you’ll immediately realize that these tiny animals, especially skunks, aren’t so easy to find in the game’s vast open world. If you’ve been looking for skunks and haven’t had the luck of finding a reliable spot to farm them, the following guide will bring your search to an end.

Skunk Location In Red Dead Redemption
The sprawling open world of Red Dead Redemption features a variety of biomes, from sprawling plains and arid deserts to swampy marshlands and snow-capped mountains. Skunks are commonly found in plains and arid regions, and sometimes they may even run across roads. These tiny animals resemble raccoons and armadillos in size and color, but they also have two distinct white stripes on their backs and tails. Here are some of the best early and mid-game spots where you can find and hunt Skunks in Red Dead Redemption:
- Cholla Springs: Featuring arid deserts adorned with cacti and small plants, Cholla Springs is home to a decent skunk population.
- Old Bacchus Place: South of Thieves Landing and north of Butter Bridge is a small forest-like area with a small skunk population.
- Casa Madrugada: If you’ve already gained access to Mexico, you can ride all the way to the east to discover Casa Madrugada town with a nice skunk population near the crossroads that runs from Casa Madrugada to Mesa Del Sol.
- Great Plains & Tall Trees: If you’ve progressed to Blackwater, you can find skunks abundantly in both the Great Plains and Tall Trees.

Skunk Hunting Tips In Red Dead Redemption
Unless you spook them by riding on your horseback or sprinting, skunks are relatively easy to hunt as many of them remain still as long as they are not threatened. However, hunting skunks takes more than just pointing your gun and shooting at them.
Given how small these animals are, shooting them with powerful firearms like shotguns or the Buffalo Rifle ruins the carcass. Consider using pistols or repeaters to take down these critters. Skunks usually love hiding in small shrubs, but you can hear their chirps when nearby. You can draw them out by using bait. Skunks are often accompanied by other critters like armadillos and raccoons, and hunting the latter is also required to complete the master hunter challenge rank 6.
