Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has one of the most beloved Zombies modes in the franchise’s history, but how does every map rank to decide the best?

Black Ops 6 is already off to a strong start thanks to Liberty Falls and Terminus, so why not embrace what fans love by honing in on the nostalgia of classic maps and story beats? After all, Richtofen is back, the Chaos Storyline returns, and there could be more than a few maps that would make for a great Zombies Chronicles 2.

Updated on November 9, 2024, by Jake Fillery: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies has excited the fanbase once more, igniting a devotion and celebration of Treyarch as fans eagerly await the next map coming in December 2024. With so much love for COD Zombies, it’s time to look at some more maps that deserve remakes. Whether it’s for fun, vindication, or something different, these are the Zombies maps that could make for decent remakes in Black Ops 6.

9 Origins

World War One Trenches Filled With Secrets, Zombies, and An Expansive No Man’s Land

  • Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Origins would make for a great remake, and that’s not to say the map is bad. In fact, much of Origins proves to be one of the greatest Call of Duty Zombies maps of all time, but considering the technology has advanced so much with Black Ops 6, Origins can be bigger and more expansive than ever.

No Man’s Sky can be truly breathtaking, and the space of the Giant Robots can overwhelm just as much as the hordes of undead. Building next-gen versions of the Elemental Staffs is a treat that shows how rewarding it is to have different objectives to do, and of course, who wouldn’t want to see Primis again?

8 Zetsubou No Shima

A Division 9 Facility Overrun With Mutated Plants and Undead

  • Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Zetsubou No Shima deserves recognition for its aesthetic and creepy atmosphere. It’s a map that might not be a fan favorite, but it definitely has done some things right, including its innovative plant growth systems that could make for fun additions to Black Ops 6’s management. Zetsubou No Shima could benefit from a remake by expanding the Division 9 laboratories and the swamp areas.

It would also be fun to see what else is happening in the Zombies lore by venturing to this Pacific Island, as fans know of America’s Requiem, but do the Japanese have anything up their sleeve when it comes to some horrific experiments involving overgrown spiders and plants?

7 Die Rise

A High-Rise Building That Creates Verticle Ways to Move, and Die

  • Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Die Rise is often regarded as one of the worst Call of Duty Zombies maps of all time, so it might be nice to see some redemption. Die Rise was a tad too ambitious for its time and decided to change the formula by creating a verticle map structure, but this added confusion and more risk of death that players weren’t thrilled about.

With revisions and a remake, Die Rise could easily try the verticality angle again, but perhaps this time with more areas and rooms to explore, and a few reserves in place so that players don’t have to always fall to their deaths because of one silly slip.

6 TranZit

An Explorable Town Surrounded By Deadly Fog

  • Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

TranZit remains one of the more controversial picks for COD Zombies, as there’s a pretty even split between those who love it and those who hate it. The map itself starts players in a bus depot, where they must fight their way outside before the bus driver leaves. The gimmick of TranZit is to jump on the bus and utilize it to safely navigate through the fog and discover perks, weapons, and areas to thrive in with 7 areas split off through the fog.

TranZit can be a bit of a nightmare for some, as the areas are rather small, meaning players can’t train zombies together. Instead, they need to separate, which increases the risk of death as it is hard to get back to each other. Nevertheless, TranZit has so many easter eggs and exciting features that it finally deserves a comeback.

5 Verruckt

An Undead Asylum Filled With Claustrophobia

  • Featured in: Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

It’s time for players to return to Wittenau Sanitorium, a German asylum that holds foul secrets, undead enemies, and winding corridors for players to get themselves stuck in. Verruckt is a great map for its atmosphere, and it could definitely benefit from Black Ops 6’s newest engine and capabilities since it could increase the size and potential of the map.

Verruckt itself is terrifying for its tight corridors, the fact that it splits the players up upon the start, and the frantic movement of the zombies involved, which add unpredictable movement to make them violent and fast. Verruckt works great as an atmospheric horror map, and those vibes need to return.

4 Kino Der Toten

The Theater Of The Damned

  • Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Heading to an abandoned cinema always seems like a thrill, especially when it is filled with zombies and Nova Six crawlers. The community loves Kino der Toten, and deservingly so. There’s plenty of intrigue in the story with the map’s aesthetics, and plenty of locations for each player to enjoy that aren’t just the main stage. The Nova Six crawlers add a necessary shake-up, and the Thundergun is a true winning wonder weapon.

The Call of Duty franchise has plenty of challenging zombie maps that will test the survival skills of players across a variety of locations.

Despite the love for Kino der Toten, it could always use a fresh coat of paint, and perhaps a few new areas. At the time, Kino der Toten was the only map where players could see outside during the day, allowing them to wonder what was beyond the Double Tap room. It would be great if this extended, allowing players to explore more of the city around the theater.

3 Ascension

An Abandoned Soviet Cosmodrome Site

  • Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Unholy experiments run amok in an abandoned Soviet Cosmodrome, where players will face off against Russian zombies. Ascension is a truly creepy map, and its size may surprise some. The fun from Ascension comes from the gimmicks of power, and how the map is in black and white until said power is turned on, which opens up new opportunities for the map.

Players can fly to different areas using the Lunar Landers, and they can even start a rocket test that will open the Pack-a-Punch room. With so much to explore and do, Ascension would truly benefit from the next-gen experience, even if it means players have to put up with those pesky Space Monkeys that steal Perks.

2 Moon

A Secret Nazi Baes On Earth’s Moon

Zombies running in a metallic tunnel

  • Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

The only way left to go is up, which is exactly what happened in Call of Duty: Black Ops with the introduction of Moon. Players are immediately thrust into the mayhem of the overwhelming zombie hordes of Area 51, where they must fight their way to the teleporter to land safely on the Moon. From the moment players enter, they will have to be cautious of explosives so they don’t break the sealed glass.

Moon is one of the largest maps, and its multiple areas benefit all players, especially those keeping safe by wearing an astronaut suit so that they can breathe and experience the thrills of low gravity. Moon can be extremely challenging, but also extremely fun, as evil astronauts seek out players, and excavators must be kept at bay to keep the map from being destroyed.

1 Buried

An Underground Western Town Riddled With Undead

cod-black-ops-2-misty-buried-mark-2

  • Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Buried has just about everything a Zombies fan could want. From the introduction of the Ray Gun Mark 2 to the friendly Arthur and hordes of undead Western zombies, this map certainly has it all. Buried is famed for being one of the easier maps thanks to the abundance of traps and narrow corridors that allow for easy spots of camping, but Buried offers a lot more than that.

A complex and winding maze that grants Pack-a-Punch, more lore implications, and a haunted house, Buried is creepy, exciting, and expansive. It would be great to see this small underground Western town return for Black Ops 6, especially if the features remain, but many of the buildings and secrets are expanded upon.
