Key Takeaways
- YouTuber Norme went viral a few months ago after he attempted to break the world record for consecutive days without sleep.
- Even though that record isn’t counted anymore, Norme is attempting another one where he stays in solitary confinement for a month without light.
- As of the time of writing, Norme is 25 days into the attempt and has been streaming for 618 hours.
YouTube streamer Norme has been streaming for over 618 hours in solitary confinement without any light as he attempts to break a “world record”.
For as long as streaming has been a thing, there have been content creators who do wild things for views. One of the strangest and most dangerous in recent memory happened a few months ago when Australian YouTuber Norme stayed awake for 264 consecutive hours in an attempt to break the world record.

The long-term side effects aren’t worth it for a second of clout.
Ignoring the fact that 264 hours isn’t even the actual world record and that Guinness no longer counts any attempts to break it, Norme’s stream was incredibly controversial, with fans worried about his mental health and well-being to the point where he was briefly banned from YouTube, Twitch, and even Kick. Somehow, Norme managed it, and it seems the attention has pushed him to try and break another “record”.
YouTube Streamer Norme Is Livestreaming A Month In Solitary Confinement Without Light
The record in question is one month in solitary confinement without light, which Norme has been attempting to beat since October 16, with over 25 days having been put into the challenge so far. As you can see from his stream, Norme’s set-up appears to be a closet of some kind that barely has enough room for a mattress that Norme has periodically been sleeping on.
It’s not really clear what “world record” Norme is attempting to break this time, as there are several people who have spent far more time than a month in solitary confinement.
Although this stream has been going on for far longer than the no-sleep world record attempt, it’s still dangerous to go so long without any light source or company. Norme’s stream has also been set up so that viewers can donate money to make him do tricks, from $5 for a handstand to $50 to tape his mouth for an hour.
Norme seems to be getting on a little better with this attempt (mostly because he can actually sleep this time), but the confinement has still taken some toll on him, with him smashing up a toy keyboard at one point and even seemingly trying to chew his way through the door. Some viewers think he’s faking it for attention, while others have shown genuine worry for his well-being.
As I said last time when we covered Norme’s no-sleep stream, no matter how many views or attention it might get you, it’s never worth putting your body and mind through so much stress just for views. Norme is now double-dipping into things that most consider torture, so let’s hope the next six days go quickly for him.
