Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC features an array of great bosses for players to take on. These, however, are the best of the bunch.
These spells require different stats to use, with some requiring a player to invest in Faith, while others require an increase in Intelligence. The higher the stat requirement, the better the spell usually is. For players that are looking to use the assortment of intelligence spells available, these are by far the best and where they can be found.
Updated On November 9th, 2024 By Joshua Leeds:
Elden Ring has a lot of sorceries for players to find and use, with many being much more worthwhile than others. This list has been updated to include additional entries from the DLC Shadow Of The Erdtree, along with other powerful options from the base game. More details have also been given for each entry to help players find and use every spell listed.
15 Law of Regression

Purchased from Brother Corhyn or Miriel, Pastor of Vows, after giving one of them the Golden Order Principia. |
Intelligence sorcerers who don’t want to keep crafting ways to remove the build-up of different status effects should look no further than the Law of Regression Incantation.
This is unlike many of the other spells players using intelligence are likely to memorize, as it doesn’t do damage but instead protects the player from the status they are likely to face while adventuring in Elden Ring, or when attacked by various foes. It can also be used to nullify other sorcerers’ spells, such as removing a Lightning Spear while it’s mid-flight.
14 Glintstone Arc
Hit Multiple Foes At Once
Spell Type |
Glintstone Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |

Where It Can Be Found |
A starting spell for the Astrologer, or it can be purchased from Sorcerer Sellen at Limgrave or Thops at the Church of Irith. |
Besides the usual Glintstone Pebble that players can have access to at the start of the game when playing as the Astrologer class, players will also have the Glintstone Arc available to them. This spell is perfect for dealing with multiple enemies at once that approach the player as a group.
Instead of focusing on one at a time, a player can instead hit them all with an arc of magic that can then pass through the enemies to hit the ones behind them. This therefore makes quick work of the obstacles a player is likely to face.
13 Carian Slicer
Quick High Damage Magic Attacks For Close Enemies
Spell Type |
Carian Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
4 |
Stat Requirement |
14 Int |
Slots Used |

Where It Can Be Found |
Purchased from whatever merchant you give the Royal House Scroll to. |
A lot of sorceries focus on dealing damage from a distance, and with cast times, you’ll rarely have good options for enemies that are able to get up close and personal. Carian Slicer offers a very quick attack that is perfect for dealing with melee enemies, and the minimal cast time makes it viable in any situation.
The low FP cost and Intelligence requirements make it an ideal backup spell early in the game. The one downside with this spell is that it isn’t very good at hitting multiple enemies at once, and is best used only against single enemies or ones you can dodge around fast to position the best flurry of attacks.
12 Night Comet
An Attack Enemies Won’t Dodge
Spell Type |
Night Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
21 |
Stat Requirement |
38 Int |
Slots Used |

Where It Can Be Found |
Found in a chest inside Sellia, Town of Sorcery. Players must first light the brazier to remove the barrier in the way. |
A large issue with using only magic in Elden Ring is that some enemies, especially NPC invaders, tend to dodge out of the way of every spell thrown at them. This can get incredibly annoying as these enemies roll around, not taking a single bit of damage.

Elden Ring: Things You Didn’t Know About Marika
Elden Ring’s lore is shrouded in mystery, complicated even further by Shadow of the Erdtree. Here are some important things to know about Marika.
Thankfully, Night Sorceries like Night Comet are perfect for dealing with this problem. The Night Comet spell is essentially a dark version of the usual Glintstone Pebble but is semi-invisible, meaning enemies tend to avoid dodging out of the way. This allows a player to hit a foe multiple times with it without worrying about wasting FP.
11 Glintstone Nails
Quick Shots That Rarely Miss
Spell Type |
Finger Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
23 |
Stat Requirement |
32 Int |

Where It Can Be Found |
It can be purchased from Count Ymir once the player has completed the first step of his quests. |
Elden Ring’s only DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, added a variety of new incantations and sorceries for players to experiment with. As this DLC demands players are at higher levels when dealing with the various regular enemies and bosses, it’s no surprise that these spells are some of the best for intelligence casters.
Nails is a perfect example of the Glintstone regular spell made even more lethal. Players cast multiple nails that quickly hit their target for a lethal amount of damage. While it may not be invisible like the Night Comet, enemies still struggle to dodge out of the way of sorcery due to how quick it is.
10 Glintblade Trio
Three Magical Projectile Blades
Spell Type |
Carian Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
19 |
Stat Requirement |
28 Int |

Where It Can Be Found |
Looted off a corpse inside Castle Ensis. |
Early into a player’s adventure in the Elden Ring DLC, players will find the Glintblade Trio spell. While some players may argue throughout the DLC, especially against some of the bosses, magic damage isn’t the best to be used, this spell that attacks enemies with three projectile blades still does an incredible amount of damage to the foes it targets.
Compared to other intelligence magic that players are likely to have in their roster, Glintblade Trio requires a small FP cost to cast it, as well as only needing an intelligence stat score of 28.
9 Adula’s Moonblade
A Heavy, Wide Arcing Magical Melee Spell
Spell Type |
Carian Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
22 |
Stat Requirement |
32 Int |
Slots Used |

Where It Can Be Found |
Dropped by Glintstone Dragon Adula. |
Despite the sword that is cast with this spell’s size, the cast time and swing speed is very fast, beating out just about every physical sword of that size. While it may not be as good in a pinch as Carian Slicer, this spell can deal more damage and is perfect for dealing with large groups of enemies thanks to the arc of damage.
On top of the magic damage, this spell also builds up Frostbite. Overall, this spell is an ideal option for those playing a more melee-focused intelligence build, as it’s worth getting in close with enemies to use. Unlike Carian Slicer, the size of the sword and arc of damage still lets this spell be used at a safer distance, and outside a regular enemy’s range of attack.
8 Rock Sling
A Physical Damage Spell
Spell Type |
Gravity Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
18 |
Stat Requirement |
18 Int |
Slots Used |
1 |
Where It Can Be Found |
Found in a chest in the underground cellar north of the Street of Sages Ruins. |
Players who are focusing on a magic build that uses intelligence spells should quickly get Rock Sling near the start of their playthrough. This spell is perfect as it doesn’t do magic damage but instead hits an enemy physically.

Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree: Best Light Greatswords, Ranked
Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree introduces the Light Greatsword weapon type, a powerful (and quick) new weapon for Tarnished to wield.
This is perfect for dealing with enemies that are immune to magic as well as hitting a foe enough times because Rock Sling can also break their stance to allow the player to rush in with a critical hit. The spell is arguably also quite cheap to cast, allowing players to use it outside boss battles in Elden Ring too.
7 Ranni’s Dark Moon
Make Foes Weak To Magic
Spell Type |
Full Moon Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
57 |
Stat Requirement |
68 Int |
Slots Used |
2 |
Where It Can Be Found |
Found at the top of Chelona’s Rise, which can only be accessed by making progress in Ranni’s questline. |
Unlike Rennala’s Full Moon sorcery, Ranni’s Dark Moon rebuffs enemies and more. Enemies hit by this blue moon receive frost damage alongside the usual 10% magic damage negation they would usually have for a minute. This spell is perfect for players who are focusing solely on using magic as it can make their other spells even stronger against the foes they face.
Not to mention that some bosses and regular enemies are also incredibly weak to frost and can build the frostbite damage they take from the player’s moons. The only issue with this spell is its FP cost, which means players will not want to rely solely on it.
6 Stars Of Ruin
A Flurry Of Hits
Spell Type |
Primeval Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
32 |
Stat Requirement |
43 Int |
Slots Used |
1 |
Where It Can Be Found |
Given by Master Lusat who can be found in Sellia Hideaway, Caelid. The player will need the Sellian Sealbreaker to access him. |
While a single Glintstone Shard can deal an abundance of damage, being able to fire 12 that pursue enemies is far better. Players that have the FP available should be sure to memorize the spell Stars of Ruin to use against all the hard-hitting foes they are likely to face in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring: Best Lightning Spells, Ranked
Elden Ring’s menu of Incantations includes powerful Lightning spells that can obliterate enemies. Here are the strongest ones, ranked.
With the spell only using one slot, the player will still have plenty of room for many of the other intelligence-based sorceries they may wish to use alongside it while saving this expensive spell for the bosses they face.
5 Terra Magica
Boost Your Already Powerful Spells
Spell Type |
Glintstone Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
20 |
Stat Requirement |
20 Int |
Slots Used |
1 |
Where It Can Be Found |
Found in a chest at the top of the tower in the Raya Lucaria Academy only accessible by completing the Academy Crystal Cave. |
While this spell is only as good as the other ones you have equipped, it makes every single spell on this list stronger. The sigil it creates on the ground may be a little small, but if you’re able to sit back from a fight and cast spells from within, you’ll see quite the boost in overall damage.
Even if you’re forced to deal with aggressive melee enemies, this spell will boost the effectiveness of melee-focused spells also on this list. It can be difficult to properly use against a boss as they will force you to move around, but the duration of the sigil will often give you enough time to move around and dodge for a bit, before returning to cast a powerful spell.
4 Rellana’s Twin Moons
Two Moons Are Twice As Powerful
Spell Type |
Full Moon Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
47 |
Stat Requirement |
72 Int |
Slots Used |
2 |
Where It Can Be Found |
It can be selected as a possible reward for the Remembrance of the Twin Moon Knight from Enia at the Roundtable Hold. |
Full Moon Sorceries continue to be some of the best in Elden Ring, with Shadow of the Erdtree adding even more spells to the category, such as Rellana’s Twin Moons. As the name suggests, Rellana’s Twin Moons allow the player to cast two incredibly powerful moons that hit the ground and their enemy for a substantial amount of damage.

Not all Elden Ring bosses are created equal; here are the easiest ones that players can take on.
Due to the sheer power of such a spell, players aren’t able to cast these moons from the back of Torrent and therefore, using it can leave the player open to attacks if they aren’t careful, especially as casting it also costs a lot of FP.
3 Meteorite Of Astel
The Potential To Cause Mayhem
Spell Type |
Gravity Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
60 (An additional 12 when used for longer) |
Stat Requirement |
55 Int |
Slots Used |
2 |
Where It Can Be Found |
Awarded to the player after killing the boss, Astel, Stars of Darkness, in the Yelough Anix Tunnel. This is found in the Consecrated Snowfield. |
Players may have already enjoyed the joy that is the regular Meteorite spell. However, once hitting the Consecrated Snowfield, it is likely time for a player to start searching for an upgrade for this already incredible bit of Gravity Sorcery.
When channeled, players call down a storm of small meteorites from the void that hit an area around them. Like the rock Sling, this spell deals physical damage, which has the potential to break the stance of the enemy, opening them up to a critical attack, as well as more meteorites that will likely hit them.
2 Comet
A Quick & Hard Hitting Spell
Spell Type |
Glintstone Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
24 |
Stat Requirement |
52 Int |
Slots Used |
1 |
Where It Can Be Found |
Found behind an illusory wall in the Debate Parlor of Ray Lucaria. |
Comet has a quick cast time, can be charged or quick fired, and can also be cast many times in quick succession. This spell is so powerful because it can adapt to whatever situation you’re in, and no matter how the spell is cast, the damage is always incredible.

Elden Ring: Hardest Bosses In Shadow Of The Erdtree, Ranked
Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is home to a plethora of challenging bosses. These, however, are the hardest ones players can face.
For larger or slower-moving targets, it’s easy to quickly hit them with multiple casts that track them as they move, which gives this spell a leg up compared to many others on this list. While it does have a very high intelligence requirement, it is well worth the effort to learn.
1 Comet Azure
A Laser Beam Of Death
Spell Type |
Primeval Sorceries |
---|---|
FP Cost |
40 (An additional 10 for the longer it is used) |
Stat Requirement |
60 Int |
Slots Used |
3 |
Where It Can Be Found |
Given to the player by the Primeval Sorcerer, Azur, who can be found sitting near the cliffs in Hermit Village, Mt. Gelmir. |
Out of all the available spells that require players to invest in their Intelligence stat, the best of the bunch is the legendary spell known as Comet Azure. This spell, when channeled, hits a target with a beam of magic that can quickly melt a foe’s health if they don’t move out of the way of its ray.
Players who are facing off against large bosses that don’t move much will find this spell perfect for these sorts of scenarios as they watch the boss’ bar disintegrate in seconds. As mentioned, it does take a moment for the spell to channel, which leaves the player susceptible to hits, so they should make sure a suitable distraction is in place.
