8 Things That Make No Sense In Sonic X Shadow Generations
We love Sonic X Shadow Generations, but some parts make no sense at all.
While many experienced fans will likely pick Shadow Generations first, it’s always worth it to have a refresher course by playing through Sonic Generations all over again. It might even freshen you up on the main story, which can massively improve your experience in the second game.

Play Sonic Generations First
Shadow Generations have slightly complicated combat mechanics including Doom Gear and Chaos Control, which can feel very overwhelming especially if you are new to Sonic. If you play the original Sonic Generations, you can get used to the basic gameplay mechanics faster.
Once you get used to the speedy feeling in Sonic Generation, you will have less trouble clearing Shadow Generation stages with an S rank. Sonic Generations also adds some more context, which you might appreciate more if you tend to notice little details.
7
Be Protective Of Your Rings
Your rank is calculated not only by your clear time but also by the rings you have on you at the end of a stage. So, try to collect as many rings as you can during your playthrough. Most Rings appear at the center of the stage, so stay there and move left and right accordingly.
Avoid losing a lot of rings by getting hit by enemies or other obstacles in your course. Even if you get hit, collect them as swiftly as you can and move forward. Rings disappear after a few seconds, so instead of stalling to get every single ring, you should press on with what you have gathered.
6
Explore The White Space Thoroughly
You might be tempted to move from one stage to the other right away, but we recommend you do a little side-tracking and explore the White Space thoroughly. Otherwise, you might miss a few things in the game, and your gameplay experience will remain incomplete.

You can collect some valuables like a total of 80 machine parts, and you may run into some chests as well. The open-world exploration in Shadows generation can be engaging and bring a new perspective to the original game. Thorough exploration will also help you find some hidden mini-games and gates.
5
Buy Helpful Skills From The Shop
You might miss this shop in Sonic Generations because it’s located far back if you move left of Green Hill Zone. You can buy several helpful skills here that can assist you in getting a higher rank in your stage runs. However, to buy skills you need skill points.
However, you can only have five skills equipped at a time, so make sure to pick the ones that will make those things easier which you tend to find more difficult. For instance, you can use them to have a shield, or they can make ring collection much easier. Some helpful skills we recommend unlocking are 10-Second Rings, Safety Net, and Sure-Footed.
4
Play Classic Sonic Acts For Gate Keys
If Sonic Generations was all about clearing the main stages, things would have been a lot easier, but also way less immersive. To unlock new stages, you need to obtain some Gate Keys. These can be found in Challenge Act Gates that are scattered across the white space, and you should find a few in your exploration.
Like normal stages, you can either play as classic Sonic or modern Sonic in a chosen Gate. We recommend you play as classical Sonic to clear these, as it is easier, considering the two-dimensional gameplay, which saves you the trouble of moving sideways according to your surroundings in 3D stages.
3
Get Hints For Collecting Chao
Since you will be focused on completing stages swiftly, you will miss out on some Chao. However, you don’t have to go out of your way to repeat every stage to find the remaining of them. If you visit the collection room on the left side of the white space, you can find some clues about their whereabouts.

If you go near the bookshelf, you will see a pop-up that spells “Chao Rescue.” This is a record for all Chao that you have collected, and for those you have not obtained yet, the book will provide you with some hints that you can use to search for them.
2
Be Swift But Cautious
The modern Sonic and Shadow stages can be very overwhelming, and it takes a while to get used to the speedy gameplay. You cannot stop moving during your run, as gaining momentum again will cost a lot of time, but you can limit your usage of boost in harder terrains, so you can keep up with your surroundings.
You are more likely to get interrupted by an enemy if you are not cautious in harder stages with many obstacles. We recommend you use Boost only in places where the way ahead is straightforward. Even if you are not using Boost, you should keep running regardless and collect all the rings present in the center and side areas.
1
Use Shadows’s Chaos Control Only When Needed
Shadow’s Chaos Control is a very helpful ability, but unfortunately, it has some limits, and you cannot use it as often as you like. So you should save some charges only to use it when you really have to.
During Shadow stages, you will be often prompted to use Chaos Control, and you really don’t want to run out of your charges when it’s necessary to use it. There are a lot of moments during Shadow’s run, where you will be required to stop objects which you can climb on to move forward. You can also freeze enemies in place if you have trouble taking them out.
