Oshi no Ko will have a second novel released, sources revealed near the end of last week. The new novel’s name will be Futari no Etude, or Etude for Two (unofficial translation). The novel will be written by Hajime Tanaka, with Oshi no Ko creator Aka Arasaka supervising the project. The story will focus on the characters Kana Arima and Akane Kurokawa.
The news of the new novel came directly from publisher Shueisha last Thursday. Futari no Etude will be the second Oshi no Ko novel to be released. It is slated to come out on December 18th, 2024, so just a little over a month away. Like the previous novel, Futari no Etude will explore more stories about the famous characters from Oshi no Ko, adding to the lore of the original series.

The First Oshi no Ko Novel
Where Did This Begin?
The first novel based on Oshi no Ko released in November 2023, almost exactly a year ago. That novel was titled Ichiban Hoshi no Spica (Spica The First Evening Star), and it was also written by Hajime Tanaka. AnimeNewsNetwork describes the plot of the novel as,
Ai shortly after she joins B-Komachi. She decides to quit her idol career, but a promising deal with her manager Ichigo might change her mind. There is also a side story involving Sarina and Goro’s meeting before the events of the series. The novel includes a bonus story written by Akasaka that was included with admission to an advance screening of the first episode of the anime.
Ichiban Hoshi no Spica adds something more to the original Oshi no Ko story for fans that cannot get enough. When not just a manga and an anime are enough to keep them satisfied, fans crave even more stories and information about their favorite characters. These sorts of spin-off novels help to quench that craving, allowing characters to have a deeper story with even more details while keeping fans happy and interested in the series.

The New Oshi no Ko Novel
What is Futari no Etude?
Futari no Etude does not have many details available at the moment. However, we do know that it is going to focus on Kana Arima and Akane Kurokawa this time. It will likely take place somewhere in the middle of the Oshi no Ko story, adding more details and an extra side story similar to what Ichiban Hoshi no Spica did. Another possibility is the story may follow the two characters as children in a flashback. While the original creators of Oshi no Ko, Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari, are not creating the novel, it is being written by the same author who wrote the first novel. Akasaka is also supervising the project, so nothing will be written without their consent.
The news about Futari no Etude is likely excellent news to Oshi no Ko fans. It is also very timely. The Oshi no Ko manga, which has been published by Shueisha since 2020, is currently in its final arc. This arc, titled “Hoshi ni Yume ni” (Toward the Stars and Dreams), began on June 27th of this year. It is the final arc, and is slated to finish on November 14th. That means fans have only a little bit more to enjoy before the series is gone forever, which makes the news of a new novel extra satisfying.
Futari no Etude, a novel based on Oshi no Ko, will be released on December 18th, 2024.
