Key Takeaways

- Flanagan is known for hits like Midnight Mass, set to tackle post-apocalyptic horror.
- Details about Epilogue’s plot and characters kept under wraps, promising a thrilling and emotional venture.
Beloved horror director Mike Flanagan is all set to produce a new zombie movie, which will feature returning icons from previous projects. Flanagan already has his full plate with the upcoming reboot of The Exorcist, a Carrie TV series in development at Amazon MGM Studios, as well as adapting the Stephen King story, The Life of Chuck, so one more exciting sounding movie shouldn’t make a difference for the industrious American filmmaker.
Previously, Flanagan wrote and directed other horror films, which include Absentia, Oculus, Ouija: Origin of Evil, before taking on the prequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep. Arguably, Flanagan’s most popular creations were the chilling Netflix horror show’s The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. However, supernatural enthusiasts were delighted with Midnight Mass, calling it Flanagan’s best series yet, especially praising the performances of Zach Gilford, Kate Siegel and Hamish Linklater. Now, Flanagan will take on the post-apocalypse in what could be his scariest and biggest adventure into the horror genre yet.

Mike Flanagan’s Epilogue Will Star Kate Siege and David Dastmalchian
In a report by Deadline, Mike Flanagan will be producing a zombie movie called Epilogue, which is set to star Oppenheimer and Late Night with the Devil actor, David Dastmalchian, as well as Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher star, Kate Siegel. The premise of Epilogue tells the story a year after a zombie apocalypse terrorized the world, centering on a couple who set out on a treacherous journey to find a cure for their child who has been infected. The film will be helmed by The Fall of the House of Usher’s Michael Fimognari from a screenplay penned by Luke Barnett and Tanner Thomason. Siegel and Dastmalchian have worked on a handful of Flanagan’s projects previously, making Epilogue their most recent horror collaboration since stepping off the set in The Life of Chuck, which received top honors at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, winning the People’s Choice Award.
Currently, most of Epilogue‘s story details are kept under lock and key or who Siegel and Dastmalchian’s characters will be, but they both could possibly play the parents of the infected child. Regardless, what we know so far seems like a winning combination for Flanagan, as his passion for the macabre and heartwrenching emotional narratives seems well suited to a movie about terrifying zombies, which sounds like it might even give HBO’s The Last of Us a run for its money. Flanagan will produce the movie through his Red Room Pictures company, and will be joined by Mortal Kombat‘s Todd Gardner, alongside Courtney Petrakis and Brittney McDade.
So far, there’s no release date announcement for Epilogue just yet. However, Flanagan fans will have plenty of horror-filled fun to quench their thirst when The Exorcist arrives in theaters on Friday, March 13th, 2026 and the eight-episode long series of Stephen King’s Carrie, which is still in development at Amazon.
