How To Find Brannof’s Inheritance In Brighter Shores

How To Find Brannof's Inheritance In Brighter Shores

‘The Brannof Inheritance’ is one of the earliest quests you’re given in Brighter Shores, but it’s unquestionably the toughest of the bunch. While it involves no combat, it will have you running all around Hopeport and its surroundings, solving clues and fulfilling NPC requests that’ll involve some steep profession grinding.

Brighter Shores: Guard Profession Leveling Guide

The Guard profession in Brighter Shores related to combat in Hopeport. Here, you can learn how to level this skill.

In this guide, we’ll cover every step, from where to find the Swirl and Falcon symbols, to what professions you should focus your leveling time on in order to fulfill the requirements for crafting a Hair Restoration Potion and Bigeye Gurnard Soup. ‘The Brannof Inheritance’ can be an intimidating quest, but it’s well worth your trouble.

How To Start The Brannof Inheritance

Hayley Brannof at the Scrapyard in Brighter Shores.

To begin ‘The Brannof Inheritance’, locate Hayley Brannof at the Scrapyard. The Scrapyard is within Hopeport, so you won’t need to travel far.

From the Town Square, head south three screens to the Central Waterfront. Next, move two screens west to reach Sea Road. From here, take the northeast exit to reach the Scrapyard.

Speak with Hayley, who gives you a couple of key items and sets you on your path.

How To Decipher The Swirl Clue

Jotting down the location of the Swirl Clue in Hopeport in Brighter Shores.

While we have multiple objectives, you can tackle them in whichever order you’d like. We’ll start by deciphering the Swirl Clue, as it’s a straightforward deal.

You will need to obtain a Quill and Ink for this. We found one in Captain Jal Degreene’s office, where you start the game. Check the desk – and be sure to equip the item to your toolbelt.

Travel back to Sea Road. (If you’re still at the Scrapyard, this won’t exactly be much of a hike.) There’s a building here with a swirl symbol that you can interact with. After doing so, open up the Map of Hopeport key item.

In case you’re as lost here as we first were, key items show up for you when you pull up a quest with them. In this case, that means clicking on the Quest menu, then ‘The Brannof Inheritance’, then the Map of Hopeport.

With your Quill and Ink equipped, you will have the option to mark the spot on the map. Do so, and this portion of the quest will be complete.

Lord Brannof’s Falcon Clue

Lord Brannof requests a spell in Brighter Shores.

Next, we’ll visit Lord Brannof. He’s – fittingly – found at Brannof’s Chamber. To get there, make your way to the Town Square, go west through Brannof Boulevard, and go west again to reach Brannof Hall’s Hallway. Enter the room to the north.

Lord Brannof is understandably a bit suspicious. To vanquish his doubts, return to the Training Grounds, speaking with Sultar Malzek. Inform him that you need his assistance casting a spell. He’ll run off to Lord Brannof, so follow him back to Brannof as well.

Speak with Sultar again once you’re back with Lord Brannof. He’ll cast the requisite spell, convincing Lord Brannof of your trustworthiness. You’ll gain the Falcon Clue, which requires you to travel to the Wasteland.

Starting at the Sea Road this time, take the northwest exit (the one that doesn’t lead to the Scrapyard) to Overgrown Pond. Venture west one tile to Rubble Road, north one tile to Overgrown Road, and follow this to the northwest to reach your destination.

The Falcon symbol is plainly visible on one of the ruins a bit southwest from the northern exit. Once again, use the Quill and Ink item on the Map of Hopeport.

The Fetid Flounder is a part of The Lost Shipment questline in Brighter Shores. Here’s where to catch it.

James Newtap And The Hair Restoration Potion

Speaking with James Newtap on Pipe Alley in Brighter Shores.

This step will require you to have attained level 50 in Alchemist before it can be completed. You can get most of the way through the objective, but you’ll be stopped before you’ve crafted the potion itself.

Find James Newtap in Pipe Alley. To get there, start at the Town Square again. Go east two tiles, through Old Street West and then Old Street East. Here on Old Street East, go north, past The Cloakroom, and you’ll find James.

James Newtap needs us to craft a Hair Restoration Potion. Take a trip to Hopeport Apothecary, and discuss the potion with Ebsworth, the shopkeep. He’ll hand you some Red Cheese.

Bring the Red Cheese to the Scrapyard, where a rat will now appear in the area. Rather than interacting directly with the rat, use the Red Cheese on the bathtub, removing the broom and placing the cheese down. The rat will get caught. Interact with the tub again to catch it.

Head to Rubble Road next. From Sea Road, go north one tile to Overgrown Pond, and then west one tile to Rubble Road. (Hopefully, you’re getting the hang of Hopeport by now!) Defeat a Hair Beast to prompt it to drop the Hair Beast Hair.

As with other monster drops, this item won’t spawn until you need it, so you won’t have even if you’ve slain a few Hair Beasts already.

Now, well… now you need to be a level 50 Alchemist. Ebsworth will tell you how to make the potion, which you’ll do right here at Hopeport Apothecary, but despite having the key items on hand, you’ll be locked out of crafting until you reach that lofty point.

Oswald Hadley And Bigeye Gurnard Soup

Oswald Hadley at the Delectable Dab in Brighter Shores.

If you thought the previous objective had a steep requirement, this last one requires you to be a level 61 Chef. Find Oswald Hadley at the Delectable Dab. If you’re en route from Hopeport Apothecary, it’s due west across from that establishment.

You can chat up Oswald before you’re level 61, but regardless, he requests a Bigeye Gurnard Soup. Check the Chef Recipe Book in the kitchen here. Click on Gurnard Soup, and you’ll see the multiple ways to prepare it, including the level 61 Bigeye version.

The Bigeye Gurnard Soup recipe involves two ingredients: a Bigeye and Stock. The Stock can be purchased from Kevin once you’re a level 16 Chef. He’s located outside the Delectable Dab. As for the Bigeye, a level 56 Fisher can catch one at Pirate Hideout.

When everything’s wrapped up, return to Hayley Brannof to wrap up ‘The Brannof Inheritance’. Enjoy your reward – you most definitely earned it!
