Demon Slayer Game Gets New Update

Key Takeaways

  • The Version 1.20 update adds Board Six based on the Hashira Training Arc.
  • New mini-games include Cold Soba Noodle Speed-Eating Contest and Fly the Distance.

CyberConnect2 has released a new update for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Sweep the Board, bringing the game to version 1.20. This new update for Sweep the Board adds a new game board and a set of mini-games based on the Hashira Training arc, one of the major arcs of the Demon Slayer franchise. The update is available now for gamers to download.

Sweep the Board is a Mario Party-esque board game that was released earlier this April for Nintendo Switch, launching on other major console platforms the following July. Developed by CyberConnect2 and published by Sega, this game is a completely different experience from the Hinokami Chronicles arena fighter. Players prepare themselves with events and mini-games during the day, and fight demons during the night. Many iconic characters from the anime, like Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and the Hashira, are playable in this game as well. The initial release had boards based on iconic locations from the show, like Mt. Fujikasane and Asakusa. The new update adds more content based on the Hashira Training arc.

How Future Demon Slayer Games Could Break From Anime Adaptation Convention

Video games based on anime franchises have followed a pretty common formula, but Demon Slayer could finally subvert expectations.

The version 1.20 update of Sweep the Board adds “Board Six,” a new game board themed around Demon Slayer‘s Hashira Training arc. This new board includes characters relevant to the story arc, such as Tengen Uzui’s three wives, Hinatsuru, Makio, and Suma, along with the Demon Slayer swordsman Murata, who will assist the players in their game. Landing on certain spaces may even initiate an event where the player will get to train with one of the Hashira.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Sweep the Board Version 1.20 Update Adds New Content

  • New Board: “Board Six” based on Hashira Training Arc
  • Two new mini-games:
    • Cold Soba Noodle Speed-Eating Contest
    • Fly the Distance!
  • Fights with Mist Hashira, Snake Hashira, and Wind Hashira at Night

Two new mini-games are also included in this update: Cold Soba Noodle Speed-Eating Contest and Fly the Distance. The Noodle Speed-Eating contest requires the player to eat cold soba noodles faster than the Water Hashira by quickly pressing the buttons in the right order. Fly the Distance has the player flying a paper airplane by stopping its gauge at the right time, where flying into gusts of wind will slow the player down. Much like the other boards in Sweep the Board, when the game shifts to its night cycle, a set of bosses will put the players’ skills to the test. On this board, the Mist Hashira, Snake Hashira, and Wind Hashira will appear, and all four players need to work together in order to overcome their challenges.

While the Demon Slayer anime has finished, the series has not had many video games to take advantage of its popularity. To wit, Demon Slayer has only had two major console titles in the past few years, The Hinokami Chronicles and Sweep the Board, which are based on earlier arcs in the anime. With the anime’s conclusion, it might be best to do another definitive Demon Slayer console game, like a sequel to The Hinokami Chronicles.
