December 5 Could Be a Huge Day for RPG Fans

2023 was an amazing year for RPGs, as it saw the release of critically-acclaimed games like Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom LIberty, and Hogwarts Legacy. So far, 2024 has arguably been just as good for fans of the genre. Publishers like Sega, Square Enix, Bandai Namco, and Atlus have shown up in full force this year and have launched some great Japanese role-playing games, including Persona 3 Reload, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. On the Western side of things, American publishers like EA and Blizzard have released well-received RPGs such as Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, respectively.

Even though 2024 is almost over, there are still a handful of noteworthy RPGs coming out later this year. Dragon Quest 3: HD-2D Remake is set to launch on all current-gen platforms on November 14, and Fairy Tail 2 is planned to debut on PlayStation, Switch, and PC on December 13. A few more role-playing games are also going to release in the last month of the year, including the turn-based JRPG Fantasian: Neo Dimension, which will come out on December 5. According to a new leak, the upcoming dress-up game Infinity Nikki will launch on the same day as well, which, if true, means that December 5 is going to be a pretty stacked day for RPG enthusiasts.

Fantasian: Neo Dimension and Infinity Nikki May Both Launch on December 5

Fantasian: Neo Dimension is a Re-Release of an Apple Arcade Exclusive for Modern Platforms

At the moment, the only RPG we know for sure is coming out on the fifth of December is Fantasian: Neo Dimension. This upcoming JRPG technically isn’t a new title, but is instead a re-release of a 2021 role-playing game called Fantasian, which launched exclusively on Apple Arcade back in the day. Despite the extra subheader, there aren’t many major differences between Fantasian and Fantasian: Neo Dimension other than the platforms they’re available on. While the original game was only accessible on iOS and macOS, the Neo Dimension version will be playable on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Fantasian: Neo Dimension is being developed by Mistwalker, the Hawaiian-based company best known for its work on Xbox 360 exclusives like Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and famed composer Nobuo Uematsu are both heavily involved with the game. Since Square Enix is the publisher of the title, this is the first time Sakaguchi has collaborated with the FF owner after the debut of 2003’s Final Fantasy X-2. In addition, given that Mistwalker has exclusively released mobile games in the last decade, Fantasian: Neo Dimension‘s release on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo will mark the first console launch for the developer in over 10 years.

Infinity Nikki is a Unique Open-World Dress-Up Game With a Focus on Exploration

Infinity Nikki is the fifth entry in the long-running Nikki series, a dress-up game franchise that’s primarily targeted toward female audiences. The Nikki games, which are being developed by the Chinese studio Papergames and its Singaporean subsidiary InFold Pte. Ltd., haven’t gained much traction in the West, but they are fairly popular in Asia. Infinity Nikki, however, could be the first installment in the franchise to appeal to an international market, given that it’s in a significantly more mainstream genre compared to its predecessors. While early entries in the Nikki series are mostly traditional dress-up games, Infinity Nikki is an open-world adventure RPG with dress-up gameplay mechanics and an emphasis on exploration.

Currently, Infinity Nikki doesn’t have an exact release date, but it is set to launch sometime in 2024 for PS5, iOS, Android, and PC via Epic Games Store. A recent listing on the PlayStation Store suggests that the game will be released on December 4 or 5, depending on the timezone players live in, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. If Infinity Nikki does launch on the fifth of the month, it will debut alongside Fantasian: Neo Dimension and come out only a day before the fellow RPG Path of Exile 2 enters early access.
