Battlefield Considered Adding a Segway Vehicle

A former Battlefield developer confirms that the studio considered adding a Segway vehicle before it was scrapped due to balancing issues.

Reddit user Walrus9000 recently shared a clip in which they’re playing a match of Conquest on the fan-favorite Operation Metro Battlefield 4 map. The clip begins with the player approaching a building near the A-flag, seeing wires extending across the door from an M18 Claymore. Without touching these wires, the gamer carefully shoots the explosive with their pistol, which highlights the Claymore with a Flashlight attachment. While the explosion is extremely close to the player, they’re unharmed because they used a nearby wall for protection. After blowing up the M18, the player runs through the door safely, but they are almost immediately killed by another Claymore placed on the adjacent stairs.

As spawning takes a few moments, these Claymores may have been replaced before Walrus9000 was able to return to the A-flag building. Although Claymores are less useful on other maps, Operation Metro provides many corners and dark areas for players to earn kills with the sneaky explosive. The M18 Claymore is a gadget available for Support and Recon kits, and it can be set up in many areas. Players may see the most success by planting the Claymore in corners like in this video, or where it can be easily hidden. Operation Metro is a Battlefield 4 remaster of a classic Battlefield 3 map that has been added to multiple titles in the series. It was part of Battlefield 4‘s Second Assault DLC which also included the Gulf of Oman, Caspian Border, and Operation Firestorm.

Although EA rarely updates Battlefield 4 since the release of Battlefield 2042, this clip highlights that the servers are still populated. Because it may never see more balance changes, the explosive damage from Claymores may always result in kills like in this video.
