Venusaur ex

Regenerating HP Every Turn

If you keep pulling from Genetic Apex Mewtwo you will find that the original Grass starter is in this set. This includes the powerful Venusaur ex, which not only hits hard but heals itself, making it one of the most difficult cards to knock out.

Venusaur ex takes a while to set up since you need to go through Bulbasaur and Ivysaur first before you can start taking advantage if its effects. However, this is well worth the time, since since Venusaur can do so much once it’s on the field.

Articuno ex

Damage Your Opponent’s Entire Team

Just like the starters and the three Pokemon on the cover of each pack, the legendary birds are also split individually. Genetic Apex Mewtwo contains Articuno which also happens to be one of the best Water-type Pokemon in the game.

Like Zapdos ex, Articuno ex is an excellent choice for a bird-only deck. With the help of Misty Articuno can land some devastating blows on the first turn and can even weaken your opponent’s Benched Pokemon each time it uses Blizzard. This just makes it so your opponent can never play the game at full power.

Gengar ex

Giving Your Opponent Nightmares

Gengar ex is a ghost that will surely come to haunt your opponent later. With its ability to shut down Supporter cards, it can stop your opponent from using Giovanni, Professor Oak, or even Sabrina. This cuts them off from an entire strategy.

Meanwhile, Spooky Shot will also dish out a healthy amount of damage each turn, making it quite useful for dealing with the most powerful Pokemon in the game. So don’t sleep on the Gengar because it only gets better as more Supporters are released.

Mewtwo ex

Two Powerful Psychic Attacks

Mewtwo ex is the cover Pokemon for Genetic Apex Mewtwo, and it is the best Pokemon you can pull from this pack. This is because it has one devastating attack which it can use once per turn if you play your cards right.

Even without Energy acceleration, you can always save your ultimate attack for a Pokemon you want out of the way in one turn. Meanwhile, you can still deal 50 damage per turn using Psy Shot and that will be enough to take out some weaker Pokemon.

Gardevoir

An Abundance Of Psychic Energy

Anything you can pull from the Ralts line is already an excellent hit. However, the card you’re going to want to chase after is Gardevoir. This will accelerate your Energy production each turn.

However, Gardevoir can stack with other copies of itself since their effect is not once per turn. This means if you get two Gardevoir out in one game, you can get two extra Energy each turn. Use this to power up your ultimate Psychic Pokemon with expensive Moves such as Gengar ex or Mewtwo ex.

Marowak ex

Two Massive Swings

An excellent Pokemon for beginners is Marowak ex. This is because it is a Stage One Pokemon ex that can potentially hit for 160 damage in one turn.

You also already start the game with some Cubones in your collection, so it’s not too difficult to complete a Marowak ex deck. Needing only two Energy to start attacking, one good coin flip will knock out most unevolved Pokemon, while two can drop ex Pokemon such as Mewtwo ex or Pikachu ex.

Weezing

Waiting For The Perfect Opportunity To Bounce

Weezing is a good Darkness Pokemon since it can instantly apply the Poison Status Effect without giving it any Energy. So you don’t need to run any Darkness Energy in your deck to utilize this Pokemon.

However, what makes Weezing so good is that you can get your Koffing and Weezing back into your hand using Koga. This makes it an excellent Pokemon to use as a bait and switch while your best Pokemon sits on the Bench Evolving and getting stronger. At this point, you can make due without ever investing anything into its Move.

Dragonite

Dragonite is the only Dragon-type Pokemon in Genetic Apex. This makes the Mewtwo pack much more attractive as a collection. Dragonite will require two types of Energy to use its Move, but getting it up and running can devastate your opponent’s Bench and Active Spot with a bombardment of damage.

This has the potential to knock out multiple Pokemon with only one Move since each time Draco Meteor hits during the turn, it does 50 damage. The fewer Pokemon they have, the more it tightens these odds as well, which forces your opponent to play with a full Bench.

Pidgeot

A Free Sabrina Every Turn

If you want a Sabrina every single turn, then you are going to want to chase after Pidgeot. With the ability to switch around Pokemon without needing to be on the Active Spot to do it, this is an excellent choice to keep on the Bench lending support.

This Pokemon can also hold its ground if it gets dragged to the Active Spot. With Whirlwind doing 70 damage, this is a bird that can be a menace for your opponent to deal with if it hits the field.

Giovanni

Ten extra damage doesn’t sound like much. However, considering many Pokemon can do 50 damage in one hit and many of the weakest ones have 60 HP, that extra bit of punch goes a lot further than you might assume.

This can bridge the gap if your opponent uses Potion in an attempt to make their Pokemon last an extra turn. It can also be just the right amount of extra damage needed to land a finishing blow on a weakened Pokemon. This is why so many players use at least one Giovanni in their deck.
