Steam has a plethora of first-person shooters available to purchase, from the likes of AAA titles like Call of Duty, Halo, and Titanfall, to various indie FPS games like Forgive Me Father, Ion Fury, and Ultrakill. These indie titles sometimes take inspiration from some of the classics, like Doom and Quake, Sprawl being no exception.
Developed by MAETH and published by Rogue Games, Inc., Sprawl is a first-person shooter influenced by idSoftware’s Quake franchise, with it being described as having Quake-like twitch gameplay, requiring mastery of its various weapons and quick thinking to defeat its many enemies. Sprawl takes place in a dystopian cyberpunk city ruled by artificial intelligence, with the player controlling the special ops super soldier, Seven, in her quest to escape the city. The game was first released in August 2023 for Steam and the Epic Games Store platform, with a GOG release a little bit later, garnering a lot of positive feedback that has put the game in the “Very Positive” category. Sprawl will be coming to consoles sometime soon.

Sprawl released a new console reveal trailer, highlighting some of its gameplay mechanics, which include wall running straight out of Titanfall, several guns and weapons to use, and lightning-fast gameplay, similar to the Quake or F.E.A.R. series. The Sprawl trailer also briefly touched upon its narrative, showing a cutscene where Seven gets shot out of a window. This announcement didn’t detail exactly when Sprawl would be coming to consoles, though the official account notes that the game will also be getting some much-requested community updates, with details also to be provided soon. The Sprawl anniversary update back in August announced that the retro-inspired first-person shooter game would be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at the very least.
Sprawl is Coming to PlayStation and Xbox Consoles
Since Sprawl was released over a year ago on PC, it also has an active community. Sprawl was originally created using Darkplaces, a modded version of Quake‘s source engine, so in order to celebrate its first anniversary, the developers of Sprawl released a total conversion gameplay mod for the game that runs on the original Quake Engine. This mod makes the game feel more authentic to its inspiration.
Since the developers stated they were putting the finishing touches on these ports back in August, it’s likely to be coming sooner rather than later. There is no word on whether more platforms like the Nintendo Switch or its successor are on the cards, however. When asked about a possible physical version of Sprawl, the account noted that if there’s enough interest, it would be something the developers would “love to do.”
