Mario and Luigi: Brothership slowly introduces players into the game’s combat, periodically giving you new attacks as you progress through many of the early islands in the game. Right off the battle, players will be introduced to the HP and MP bars, with HP being each brother’s health that needs to stay up otherwise they get knocked out.
BP is also used in combat, though it is used to activate special attacks known as Bros. Attacks which will also continuously be unlocked as you progress through the game. Both stats are very important to keep up with while exploring islands, unlike Stache which is focused purely on combat; here’s how to restore both.

Some villages and even Shapeshift Island, after you progress through the story, will have restoration tents. Both restoration tents and blocks are marked on the map with the same icon that looks like a restoration block. These can be rested at to restore your HP and BP much like a restoration block. The other most common method of restoring both HP and BP is healing items. For the most part, there are different items that are used for HP and BP, with a few covering both.
Restoration items such as Mushrooms and Syrup Jars are found by hitting blocks throughout the various islands, dropped from enemies, or purchased at general stores. General stores are marked with a mushroom icon on the map, and all sell restoration items for the same cost, with an infinite amount of any being sold.

How To Revive A Knocked-Out Brother In Mario and Luigi: Brothership
If you run out of BP, all that happens is you can’t use special attacks. If a brother’s HP reaches zero, they will get knocked out. If both brothers get knocked out you’ll get a game over, and if this happens enough time you can change the game’s difficulty. If one brother is still up, you can use a 1-Up Mushroom or 1-Up DX to revive that brother with either 50% of their max HP or 100% HP, respectively.
